Get ready to soak up the atmosphere and celebrate against the backdrop of one of the world's most stunning city skylines, with a sizzling Hong Kong Summer Spectacular that lasts all summer long.

Welcoming the warm weather

Hong Kong is spectacular any time of year, but witnessing it during Summer Spectacular is worthy of a place on anyone’s bucket list. The start of summer is a beautiful thing. Everyone is ready to throw off their jackets, line up for an iced tea and enjoy the great outdoors. But when summertime arrives in Hong Kong, the city doesn’t just celebrate – it explodes.

The Hong Kong Summer Spectacular is an annual event that promises hot nights and cool vibes, and in 2014 it will be celebrated from 27 June to 31 August. During the month-long festivities, Hong Kong doesn’t hold back in showcasing its celebrated cultural scene, incredible dining, pulsating nightlife or prominence as Asia’s shopping mecca.

The sun sets over Hong Kong

Everyone loves a beer fest

The Lan Kwai Fong Beer and Music Fest is a must. Not only do you get to claim your ‘cool’ credits hanging out in the entertainment and dining heartland of Hong Kong, but you will be spoilt for choice with world-famous beer and music galore.

The streets of Lan Kwai Fong burst at the seams with festivities: street stalls, mouth-watering cuisine, bands, dance performances, games and limbo competitions.

If you love live music, then you really need to get your pop on in Hong Kong. Last year saw Justin Lo, a Hong Kong-American Cantopop star, heat up Summer Pop – Live in Hong Kong, and this year is shaping up to be equally huge.

Strap on your flats & shop 'til you drop

Hong Kong is the ultimate shopping destination at any time. But come the Summer Spectacular, it’s something else entirely. Start with the sales, which fortuitously coincide with the new season fashions, and then check out the Visa go Shopping Indulgence, where you can receive rewards, discounts and vouchers for purchases made with your Visa card at accredited merchants.

And if you like the idea of turning your shopping into sport, there’s the Visa go Hong Kong Super Shopper competition with teams participating in a ‘mad-dash’ treasure hunt across the city. In 2013, the winning team pocketed $AU280,000 in Visa spending credit – a prize well worth the effort!

Take your taste buds on tour

We all love a foodie holiday and the Summer Spectacular will more than deliver your gourmet fix. The festival places cuisine at its very heart, and a huge selection of restaurants and bars around the city will be getting in on the action with dining offers and parties aplenty.

Around town there are also the usual food favourites, so if you haven’t tried a street skewer then you’ve yet to truly experience Hong Kong. Not quite brave enough for deep-fried intestines? Opt for the tasty curry squid on a stick instead.

Lastly, don’t board that plane home without popping your head into at least one Hong Kong bakery. Do so and you’ll be rewarded with egg tarts, pineapple buns and sugary puff pastries that will make you want to skip your main meal.
