Belinda van Tholen, Senior Consultant at the Charles Street store in Launceston, recently travelled to the glorious Emirates of Dubai and Abu Dhabi, where she explored Ferrari World, which boasts some of the fastest roller-coasters in the world, took the elevator to the top of the Burj Khalifa and embarked on a Sundowner Dune Dinner and Safari.

"I didn't really know what to expect from Dubai. But from the moment I got there I was enthralled by this amazing destination. The architecture is really cool. The opulence and luxury of the hotels is amazing - they're just stunning. It's modern, it's cultural - it's a whole big melting pot of greatness. I never thought I'd love it so much and I can't wait to go back."

Dubai's Old City

"With the local tour company, Arabian Adventures, I did a City of Merchants tour - it takes five hours and you get to see the highlights of Dubai with a focus on the historic sights. As part of the tour,  we took an Abra, which is a traditional boat made of wood, across Dubai Creek to shop in the famous gold and spice souks."

The Spice Souk

"I was keen to have a look at the trading side of the Dubai - so the tour took us to the Spice Souk, which then leads into the Gold Souk. I was struck by the colour of the displays - they're absolutely beautiful."

Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque

"In Abu Dhabi, I took a City Spectacular Tour again with Arabian Adventures. The absolute highlight of the tour was visiting the Sheik Zayed Grand Mosque. This place is mind blowing! It's a must do for anyone visiting Abu Dhabi and probably the most beautiful I've seen in my life. It had white marble floors, high arches and incredible water features. The circular domes were so striking and inside it has these massive chandeliers."

Group Shot Sheikh Zayed Mosque

"While we're at the Mosque, all ladies are required to be covered from head to toe. Some of the clothes that we're wearing in this photo we borrowed to observe the culture. "

The Burj Khalifa

"It was a real journey from the moment you entered in on the ground floor - especially the big screen where you could pick a city in the world and put the Burj Khalifa in the skyline to see just how big it really is. The view from the top is pretty amazing. I would urge everyone to pre-book because it would be a shame to miss going up the tallest building in the world!"

The Burj Al Arab

"On a free afternoon, I did some shopping in Madinat, which is a area great for souvenirs. I couldn't help but be in awe of the Burj Al Arab."

Sundowner Dune Safari

"On the Sundowner Dune Safari we drove for around an hour from Dubai to the dunes. The falcon show before the 4WD adventure was very entertaining. The dune driving itself was well structured and good without being too rough. The Bedouin Desert Camp is impressive with beautiful carpets and cushions on the ground, mood lighting, music, nice food, henna painting and belly dancing. It was a really enjoyable night and a must do for anyone visiting the UAE."
