The second largest country in South America, Argentina presents a multitude of travel experiences. After tasting the delicious steak and dancing the night away in Buenos Aires, here at Flight Centre we encourage travellers to explore the stunning scenery of this magnificent destination. Here are our favourite Argentinian images that were captured by our team while hiking through the Argentinian countryside.

Patagonia captured by Lyndon Barnett
As an avid hiker, it was already a dream of Lyndon Barnett's to hike in Patagonia in southern Argentina. The moment presented itself several years ago and Lyndon flew from Buenos Aires to El Calafate before boarding a bus to El Chalten, where he spent five glorious days hiking the various trails. This photo is one of Lyndon's favourites as it captures the dramatic variations in the terrain; from the glacial lakes to the snow capped mountains and rough rocky dirt.

The Perito Moreno Glacier captured by Katherine Schussler
Katherine Schussler, who's based in Perth, was lucky enough to be on her way to Antarctica and, as she had some extra time, went to Patagonia for a few days beforehand as some friends recommended heading there as a good preparation for Antarctica. "I was on a day tour out to the Perito Moreno Glacier. I had just done a boat ride to get up close to the impressive sight. This view from above the glacier is even more amazing as it showed the full size of it. The whole region was fantastic, I would definitely go back there."

Iguazu Falls by Olivia Mair
Olivia Mair loved travelling around Argentina. "A spectacular end to a spectacular day. On a visit to Iguazu Falls National Park on the Argentina/Brazil border, I spent the day marvelling at the power and magnitude of the Falls. Even though I had seen many images of the Falls prior to my trip, nothing prepared me for the sheer scale of this impressive sight. After wearing myself out making sure I had viewed the Falls from every possible vantage point (there are many!), I relaxed with a well deserved champagne on the balcony of my hotel as the sun set over the Falls in the distance."

Cerro Otto captured by Tara Lauzon
Tara Lauzon, a corporate consultant located in Phoenix, Arizona, took an Intrepid tour around Chile and Argentina with her partner. "We stayed in Bariloche and had a free day to explore this magnificent outdoor wonderland on our own, so we decided to do a day hike to the top of Mount Otto. We planned such a great trip and were so excited, that our tour guide decided to join us even though it was his only day off. We hiked to the top in a few hours, taking a few stops along the way to take in the views and do some mountainside yoga. When we got to the top, we shared traditional Argentine matés with the cable car operator and he showed us a secret trail to the back side of the mountain. We eagerly followed it and immediately passed a stunning hawk perched in a nearby tree as we trudged on through virgin mountain-top snow. We finally reached the peak and stopped for a delicious lunch of cheese, paté, crackers, apples and delicious Bariloche chocolate – all enjoyed while taking in the breathtaking view in the picture below!"

Mendoza captured by Ben Austen
Ben Austen, a Flight Centre consultant in New Zealand, took several months off to backpack around South America. "This photo was taken on the outskirts of Salta in northern Argentina. We had just spent the day on a tour visiting rural villages and towns. While on a toilet stop on our way back I decided to climb a bit of a hill across the road to find this incredible view on the other side."

Cerro Catedral captured by Lyndon Barnett
Known as the Lakes District, the hiking around Bariloche in summer is extremely rewarding. After admiring the incredible views of Patagonia, Lyndon took the bus to Bariloche to continue his hiking expedition. "In winter, Cerro Catedral is one of the region's most popular ski resorts but in summer it's a wonderful place to hike. Many people camp at the designated camping spots but I enjoyed this hike as a day trip. This photo features that unmistable alpine terrain made soggy with the melted snow. You can just imagine this outlook covered completely in a white blanket."
