Ana Diaz, Flight Centre's SEO expert recently took a trip to home to Venezuela after a three year absence.

"My primary goal was to catch up with my family however I was really keen to explore my country, especially because the terrain is so different to Australia. Angel Falls, for example, stands out in Venezuela, so I was keen to admire this natural wonder. I flew into Caracas where I spent a week before heading across to the incredible Canaima National Park. My family then joined me on the popular Venezuelan Island of Margarita, which is known locally as the Pearl of the Caribbean."

The Most Easterly Point of Margarita Island

"This image was taken from a lighthouse, which is at the most eastern point of Margarita Island. From this point, you can see the coastline with the mountains in the background - this is a typical landscape for the Caribbean. In the light house there is also a meteorology station where the weather reports are gathered, which was fascinating to tour."

The Sun Setting Over Juan Griego Bay

"I was enjoying a fresh fish dinner as the sun was setting. This area is famous in Venezuela for fishing; I'm told that the fish I ate was caught at 4am that morning by local fisherman. The tables of the restaurant were outside and I couldn't help but capture the beautiful sunset. "

Guacuco Beach

"I spent the whole day swimming on this stunning beach. The vegetation growing so close to the shoreline was just remarkable. The trees gave a really nice shade and the waves were gentle."

Looking Back To Guacuco Beach

"I took the camera into the water with me, so that I could take an image of the shoreline looking back. Many people hire beach umbrellas and lounge chairs for the day. Everyone loves playing beach tennis, volleyball and frisbee - to spend the day having fun."

Angel Falls

"Now this is amazing - the highest uninterrupted waterfall in the world at 979 metres. After flying into the national park, I took a boat along the Orinoco River for four hours and then hiked through the Amazon for 45-minutes to reach this incredible sight. The guides who conducted the tour were all local - they were excellent. The Falls were accidentally discovered by Jimmy Angel in 1933 - this explorer gave the falls its name."

Heading Towards El Sapo Waterfall

"We camped in the Canaima National Park for two nights. I took this shot as we headed towards these Waterfalls. You can really see the power of the water as it tumbles off the rocks. The mountains in the backgrounds, called Auyan-tepui, are one of the oldest mountain ranges in the world. "

El Sapo Waterfall Up Close

"Also on the tour, our guide took us to the El Sapo Waterfall. We walked underneath the falls, which was amazing, it was like you were in an air tunnel and we got saturated - but well worth it."
