A grand city of crumbling palaces and romantic canals, Venice captures the imagination like few other cities. Add to that glorious accommodation like the Belmond Hotel Cipriani Venice, and you’ll likely never want to leave. Our Instagramming friends @helloemilie and @jasoncharleshill had a chance to stay here and explore La Serenissima. Here are their highlights.

What was your first impression of the Belmond Hotel Cipriani?

From the start we knew we were in for an amazing experience as we were whisked away to Giudecca Island overlooking the best of Venice, we felt like movie stars ha ha.

The hotel describes itself as the Royal Box to the theatre that is Venice – would you agree?

We would have to say it’s a perfect description for the hotel, as the whole place exudes elegance as you look across to St Mark’s Square and the rest of Venice.

What was your room like?

It felt like it was fit for royalty with a luxurious interior with all the Venetian touches and one of the most beautiful bathrooms we’d ever seen.

What was the view from your room like?

Ahhh if you could imagine waking up, seeing the city of Venice right outside your bedroom window, well that would be our view… just amazing.

What was your favourite part of your stay?

Other than the amazing view, service and a room straight out of a fairytale, it was great to stay only a five-minute boat ride from the bustling city of Venice. The hotel is like an oasis.

Why is the hotel a good base for exploring Venice?

Situated on an island and across from the main sites, the hotel is so convenient for exploring Venice as it has a 24-hour boat service that drops you off right in the heart of St Mark’s Square.

What else did you do in Venice?

Our days were spent getting lost and exploring the alleys and we wouldn't have had it another way. It’s so much fun not knowing what’s around the next corner and what you might just find.

What was the best thing about Venice?

I guess it would be the way of life. With no cars and the only way to get around is by boat or foot, it’s such an amazing experience and something we could get used to.

Favourite meal in Venice?

Well will so many choices and being Italy, you know the food is going to be amazing but we could not go past the gelato!

What’s your best Venice travel tip?

Get a map and then put it in your pocket and look at it later. Follow your nose and find your own way around Venice – it’s so much fun.

What was the best thing to photograph?

Venice is an incredibly photogenic city and capturing the Grand Canal with gondoliers and boats making their way at sunset was a great experience.

Travel for me is about conversations and connections. There’s nothing like setting foot in a new land and meeting people a world apart. From talking to North Sea fishermen in Norway’s Lofoten Islands to breakfast chat at a B&B in my own back yard, there’s always a story to share and a tale to tell.
