Jordan - Just Magical

3 August 2011

Amy Barber travels to Jordan and visits Amman, Petra and Wadi Rum. Amy also enjoys the waters off Aqaba and the Dead Sea. Amy, tells us about her trip to Jordan.

 Petra

The tour started in Amman with a tour of the city. The best way I could describe Amman is old meets new.  You have all the western shops we all know and love while looking over to an ancient hand built theatre that holds thousands of people.

Next was Petra, probably my favourite place, so full of history and so romantic. While walking along the candle lit gravel tracks we came to the end where the caves opened up to the impressive treasury.  During the day, we hiked Petra to discover the ancient tombs, staircases and temples. Ending the day with a Turkish bath and feasting after an Arabic cooking class.

Heading next to Wadi Rum, a landscape of coloured sandy desert with scattered rock formations and what better way to get there than by a 4x4 safari!  After watching the sun set over the desert we made our way to a Bedouin camp for the night.  We enjoyed a feast of local food cooked under the ground.  Off to bed under a galaxy of stars.

Crystal blue waters full of marine life greeted us in Aqaba.  We spent the day exploring the world under the water in the Red Sea. We indulged in a BBQ lunch cooked on board the boat and to finish the day we went shopping for unique jewellery at the boutiques in town - a perfect end to a perfect day.

Driving from Aqaba and having my first look at the Dead Sea was one of the most exciting parts of the trip.  I never thought I would get the chance to see it in real life. A must that everyone just has to do once in their life!  Bobbing like a cork or doing the ‘skydiving' position is a surreal feeling; just make sure you don't get any water in your mouth, it's very salty!

Each City in Jordan is completely different from the other.  The Jordanians are so extremely friendly and welcoming, I didn't want to leave.
