Paris' Louvre Still Most Popular Art Museum

22 April 2015

Paris' Louvre remains the world's most visited art museum according to a 2014 ranking, while London's National Gallery and Seoul's National Museum also had a year to celebrate.

Two shows in particular were credited with helping the National Gallery increase its numbers, Veronese and Late Rembrandt, while the New York Met experienced a "fractional" dip in attendance, according to figures and analysis released by The Art Newspaper.

The Louvre was the world's most popular museum in 2014

Meanwhile, a 500,000-person increase in annual attendance was responsible for the National Museum of Korea's appearance in the 2014 top ten.

In 2014 it featured a loan collection from the Musee d'Orsay, a collaboration with the Vietnam National Museum on ancient civilization, a display of new acquisitions in Asian Art, and a Buddhist Hanging Scroll among its temporary exhibitions.

And though the Louvre experienced a 500,000-person fall in annual numbers between 2012 and 2014, the institution is preparing for as many as 12 million visitors through its halls by 2025.
