Kauri Cliffs, New Zealand

This beautiful, 5-star property is located in the remote far north of New Zealand, high on a cliff top and overlooking a pristine coastline with three private beaches. While guests have a choice of suites in The Lodge, the romantically-inclined amongst you will most likely want to stay in the very private Owner’s Cottage. With light, bright and stylish spaces created by Auckland-based interior decorator Virginia Fisher, The Owner’s Cottage is like that home-away-from-home you imagine in your dreams: authentic luxury that is also relaxed and laid-back.

The property offers views to-die-for, with an east-facing patio that extends out to an infinity pool and Jacuzzi. The cosy, comfortable sitting room is even more snug when the fire is roaring in the open fire place, and you both have a glass of exquisite New Zealand wine in hand.

If adventure is what you’re looking for, you could always whisk your loved one up, up and away on a Bay of Islands Helicopter Discovery Tour and take in the unforgettable views of this naturally breathtaking region. Or arrange to have a gourmet private barbecue on the lodge’s stunning pink beach.

Blanket Bay, New Zealand

New Zealand’s south island also has a few gems along its equally spectacular coastline. This time, think mountains, snow – and so much more. Blanket Bay in Otago is New Zealand’s ultimate alpine escape, nestled on the shores of Lake Wakatipu, below the snow-capped peaks of the southern alps, a short distance from Queenstown. It sounds romantic already, right?

It is. Picture a grand lodge finished with native New Zealand timber and stone, set within lush, sprawling grounds. Room choice includes three lodge suites with private balconies, stone fireplaces and views over the lake. As you would expect from world-class accommodation in New Zealand, sensational cuisine is just part of the package. Within the nightly five-course menu, you can expect to dine on local delicacies such as Canterbury Quail, Hawkes Bay Lamb Short Loin and Milford Sound Crayfish – accompanied by some of New Zealand’s finest wines, no less. You can dine in the Evening Dining Room, set up with individual tables, or within the more intimate Wine Cave. Romance perfection!

Wolgan Valley, Blue Mountains, Australia

Here on home soil, you have some super-romantic getaways to choose from, and one of our favourites is Emirates One & Only Wolgan Valley. With off-the-beaten-track being one of the benchmarks of luxury, it’s not surprising that this conservation-based resort is a dream destination. Occupying a mere one per cent of its own 7,000 acre nature conservancy, the remote resort is a scenic 2.5-hour drive from Sydney within the World Heritage-listed Greater Blue Mountains.

The Heritage Villas, Wollemi Villas and Wolgan Villa are all sanctuaries of privacy, with the latter the ultimate in secluded privilege. Nestled within a private corner of the resort, 3-bedroom Wolgan Villa is the perfect place to escape from the craziness of life and just relax and reconnect. This completely self-contained lodge features a beautifully landscaped garden with private terraces and swimming pool.

If you also love food, you’re in the right place. Self-styled ‘foodie hotspot’, Emirates One & Only Wolgan Valley uses only the very best seasonal, regional and, where possible, organic produce from local Blue Mountains boutique farms, private growers and wine growers.

And the spa? This is a whole new level of bliss.

Maleny, Sunshine Coast, Australia

If you want to escape with your sweetheart to one of the most romantic and unique places in Australia, consider Spicers Tamarind Retreat at Maleny in the Sunshine Coast Hinterland.

Set amongst a lush, south east Queensland backdrop, this Asian-influenced refuge will spirit you away to another world and give you time to rediscover the simple joy of being together.

One of the special options at Spicers Tamarind Retreat is the Cooking School. For couples who love to cook, this is a great way to pick up some handy culinary tips but more than that – it’s a fun way to spend some time together, trying something new.

The resort offers 14 pavilions in stand-alone luxury, creating the perfect private space in a tropical rainforest setting. The Falls Villas, in particular, are designed for two and feature outdoor Japanese style cedar hot tubs. Things to do include rainforest walks, hinterland food and wine tours, indulging in some treatments at the Spa Anise Day Spa or wandering down the main street of Maleny, browsing through the artisanal boutiques or stopping for coffee.
