Nothing But Good Problems To Miami Nightlife

19 January 2015

So you've landed in Miami with toes in the sand. The sun's out and so are the beach bods – yours or someone else's it doesn't matter. What really matters is where you're going to party once that sun sets and the beats start pumping.

The only problem with Miami's nightlife is its vastness. But that's like saying having too many Ferraris to know which one to drive is a problem. Fortunately, there's an easy way to get around the former.

You only need to know where to go.

For An All-Night Rager

.........................................................................................................................................................
From South Beach to across the causeways, the clubbing in Miami attracts many to the city's shores. Be prepared for loud and wild partying at its best, the kind that will make you want to scream, "I'm in Miami b****!"

LIV

For the bejewelled and golden gilded club that many associate with Miami, with VIP sections and litre bottles of vodka chilling on ice, LIV is the place you seek. In fact, it's the club many flock to on a night out along South Beach including celebrities.

Located at the historic Fontainebleau, LIV initially gives off a contemporary and elegant swagger before injecting your night with glow sticks, smoke machines, scantily-clad dancers and a lot of bass.

The main space is quite open with balconies and plenty of room for dancing. You can spend a little more for your own private skybox or be content with the three bars and energetic dance floor.

Mansion

Mansion is all about the good times, good people and embracing everyone as 'one of the crowd'. This high-profile club entertains celebs and backpackers alike, bringing two very different groups together. Of course the former are usually downing top-shelf liquor in VIP rooms, while everyone else finds their groove on the dance floor.

With a capacity of 2,500 people, there are more late-night revellers to meet than people in Moura, Barraba or Monto.

As a regular guest, you have the choice of two floors with multiple bars, seating areas and DJ booths. Speaking of which, depending on when you're visiting, you might catch a live set by an international DJ such as Skrillex or David Guetta.

Space

No club in Miami better embodies the all-night rager spirit than Club Space. In 2014 it broke its own record for a party marathon by holding an 18-hour live DJ event. Located in Miami's downtown district, this is the place to go when you want a party that doesn't stop.

The club resides in a vintage warehouse with outdoor rooftop area and multiple storeys of strobe-lit dance floors. With worldwide DJs and plenty of partiers with a no-tomorrow attitude, don't be surprised to stumble out having already been beaten by the rising sun.

Relaxed Lounges And Bars

.........................................................................................................................................................
It's not all hardcore party action in Miami. The city's tropical atmosphere helps lend it a chilled-out vibe along the beachfront and in its chic downtown neighbourhoods. Ranging from dimly-lit lounges with leather seating to high-end bars designed by renowned interior decorators, it's hard not to find the right place for putting your feet up and ending the day at a local hangout.

Sunset Lounge at Mondrian

Many of Miami's swankiest bars and lounges are attached to luxurious hotels, such as the Sunset Lounge, located at the Mondrian South Beach.

Featuring indoor and outdoor lounges, this bar lives up to its name by placing you in a perfect position to enjoy sunset over Miami's city skyline.

It's far more intimate than most would expect of a hotel bar. Private cabanas walled off by natural hedges sit alongside the pool and nearby is a luscious garden where many patrons have made use of the 'kissing corners'.

The Stage

Away from the beach, located in the well-known Design District, is an amalgamation of music, art and film: The Stage. This night spot is a great place to delve into Miami's artsy culture amidst a laid-back ambience.

Upon entering your eyes will almost immediately be drawn to the stage, which is lit up under the high ceilings within an open room. Despite the option of three bars, you'll still find plenty of space to kick back with a drink and enjoy the live acts from either inside or from the outdoor courtyard.

Bleau Bar

Do you like to garnish your Martini with a slice of history? Miami's Bleau Bar, located in the Fontainebleau Miami Beach resort, is the right cocktail bar for you. As you walk into the resort, you'll be stepping into scenes straight out of American film and music history.

Sip on specialty in-house cocktails such as a Mexican Fake Out or Blueberry Mojito as you lounge in the same resort where James Bond and Goldfinger played a game of gin rummy and Elvis and Frank Sinatra performed their  hits.

Spice Up Your Night With Latin Flavours

.........................................................................................................................................................
The distinctly multicultural community of Miami has resulted in numerous Latin-inspired restaurants, bars and live music venues rising up to give the city a tantalising exotic flavour. Miami is your chance to fill up on pico de gallo and swing your hips to the groove of flamenco, Latin jazz and reggae.

Kukaramakara

Visit Kukaramakara in the early hours of the evening for a menu of traditional Latin food, but return later on to encounter one of the best live music venues for Latin performers. Once inside it's easy to forget you're still in the United States. The Latin atmosphere is authentic and vibrant.

You can really appreciate the performing artists while they delight with high-energy live music that has everyone on their feet and dancing with spice in their shoes.

Hoy Como Ayer

Located in Little Havana, a neighbourhood rich in Central and South American residents, Hoy Como Ayer is another nightclub proud of its Latin roots. With a rotating line up of live performers, Thursday to Saturday is the best time to embrace the eclectic stylings of Miami's Latin artists.

However, Thursday nights are typically highlighted by regulars Spam Allstars, an Afro-Cuban band that incorporates Latin, funk hip hop and dub step. If the music isn't enough, the delicious food and drinks along with the lively people will make you want to return the next night.

I love the kind of travelling that is one part strategic planning and two parts spontaneous adventure. Whether I'm exploring my local city or a small town in the middle of nowhere, I'm always hoping to find something no one else has discovered.
