For Mother's Day - The Mother of all Travel Guides

7 May 2012

As we prepare to shower our mothers with affection on their special day, here at Flight Centre, we thought we'd put 'mother" front and centre - as inspiration for some beautiful international travel destinations.

Check out our M-O-T-H-E-R of all travel guides.

M for Maastricht
It's a pleasure to stroll through the cobblestone streets of Maastricht, a beautifully preserved medieval city in the south of The Netherlands. Be sure to admire the architecture that adorns the two town squares – the Vrijthof and the Markt - before heading to the Bonnefantenmuseum, which boasts an impressive collection of classical art.

 Beautiful Oslo

O for Oslo
The Norwegian capital, Oslo offers the perfect city break experience. We recommend that you appreciate the impressive Royal Palace, the Cathedral and the City Hall, before strolling through Vigeland Sculpture Park - famous for the sculptures designed by Gustav Vigeland. While in Norway, mothers will appreciate travelling north to experience the sheer beauty of the Norwegian fjords.

T for Te Anau
Surrounded by astonishing natural beauty, Te Anau sits serenely on the shores of Lake Te Anau and can be used as the ideal launching pad to explore the iconic Milford Sound. Adventurous Mums will enjoy hiking the Milford Sound track; but for those who wish to sit back and admire the scenery – a Te Anau cruise will suit them perfectly.

H for Honolulu
On the stunning Hawaiian island of Oahu, Honolulu is one of the world's great beachfront cities. Spend your days relaxing on the golden sand before enjoying a delicious seafood meal at a glorious gourmet restaurant. Also consider appreciating the views from Diamond Head and the Nu'uanu Pali Lookout.

E for Eilat
Situated at the intersection of Egypt, Israel and Jordan, the Israeli town of Eilat is an often overlooked Middle Eastern resort town. Snorkelers and divers can spot the marine creatures living in the nearby waterways, while the entire family will enjoy a visit to Dolphin Reef.

R for Rio de Janeiro
With the iconic Cristo Redentor overlooking the city, Rio de Janeiro has certainly been blessed with beauty. The beaches are world famous, the architecture is impressive and the vibe is positively infectious. For respite from the buzz, head to the tranquil Jardim Botânico or the Parque Lage.

Lyndon Barnett

Guided by curiosity and a sense of adventure, Lyndon travelled independently to 69 countries on six continents. As such, travel is Lyndon's only addiction. He enjoys with equal measure - scaling the peaks of a South American mountain at altitude, attending opera in a European Opera House or hunting for a bargain in an Asian market.
