When you're visiting a city for the first time there's nothing better than getting tips from a local on where to eat, where to shop and for unique suggestions beyond the usual guide book inklings!

We caught up with Los Angeles’ local Stefanie Michaels, travel and lifestyle journalist, for her insider scoop on food, cocktails, Abbot Kinney shopping and one of Cali's more famous beaches.

Barton G. The Restaurant – Los Angeles is such a foodie haven, and this is one of my favourite places. Its menu is a series of playful takes on the yummiest comfort foods. Don’t miss Marie Antoinette’s Head, the ‘let them eat cake’ dessert.

Rebel Bingo – This venue features, you guessed it, bingo, flowing cocktails, great music and an eclectic group of people. Locations tend to move around, so check its Facebook page.

Abbot Kinney – Just off Venice Beach, this super-hip block offers on-trend boutiques, restaurants, food trucks (on the first Friday of every month), ice-cream parlours and bars.

Day Trip

Laguna Beach – Head an hour south of LA and you’ll find some of SoCal’s most expensive real estate. The surfside town of Laguna Beach has access to some really beautiful beaches.

Secret Tip

Insider info – Escape Room LA is a real-life interactive game that features different scenarios. You need to unlock the clues to exit the room.
