qualia Adds 14th Accolade To Its Crown

5 December 2014

Luxury Hamilton Island resort, qualia, has just collected its 14th accolade to date by taking out Australian Traveller’s ‘Best Luxury Resort in Australia’ Peoples’ Choice Award.

“Creating an extraordinary guest experience is central to all we do. Our team strives to ensure every qualia moment is memorable and of a world-class standard. We're honoured that our guests believe we have achieved this and continue to view qualia as the epitome of luxury in Australia,” says qualia General Manager Matthew Taverner.

Hamilton Island was also recognised in the annual poll as ‘Australia’s most beautiful island getaway’. Easily accessible, the island is serviced daily with direct flights from Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Cairns.

If qualia’s spectacular location on Hamilton Island isn’t enough of a drawcard, here are five more reasons why you should book your next getaway to this luxurious retreat (as if you needed more than one).

1. Pavilions

Famed architect, Chris Beckingham, created a world within a world on the northernmost tip of Hamilton Island. Each of the 60 pavilions are completely private and surrounded by the Great Barrier Reef and native eucalypts - perfect for romantic getaways.

The private plunge pool in a Windward Pavillion

You have the choice between a Leeward Pavilion, designed to make the most of those legendary glowing Whitsunday sunsets; a one-bedroom Windward Pavilion with private, sea-facing infinity plunge pool; or the elegant, yet laidback Beach House complete with its own terrace, adjoining guest house and 12-metre infinity-edge swimming pool.

2. Dining

Given the spectacular Hamilton Island setting is the inspiration behind qualia’s layout, it shouldn’t come as a surprise that its culinary offerings also echo the sultry splendour of Tropical North Queensland. Chef Alaistair Waddell and his team showcase the finest local produce from the region in dishes that can only be described as edible works of art.

 The Pool Pavilion

Savour tropical cocktails on the deck as the sun sets over the Long Pavilion before indulging in a four, six, eight or ten course tasting menu. Enjoy a relaxed meal at Pebble Beach Dining, or opt for a fine-dining experience served in the comfort of your pavilion.

3. Signature Spoils

In Latin, qualia translates to a “collection of deeper sensory experiences,” and the resort’s assortment of signature activities are guaranteed to further enhance your stay. Whether you’re an epicurean, adventure seeker or fitness enthusiast, there is no shortage of pastimes to choose from; that is, if you can tear yourself away from your spot by the pool.

Take to the seas and explore the Whitsundays’ by snorkel, kayak and cruise; enjoy the scenic route by helicopter to a round at the Hamilton Island Golf Club; and enrich your dining experiences at private ‘talk and taste’ classes on pairings like wine and cheese or sake and sashimi.

4. Pampering

Australian Traveller readers also awarded the ‘Best Spa in Australia’ title to Spa qualia. The spa offers the ultimate in pampering with a whole host of authentic Australian treatments, along with personal trainers and a yoga lawn.

The Kumali Ritual Massage at Spa qualia

Revitalise your mind, body and soul with a restorative detox treatment; visit with your partner for a blissful couples’ package; or completely surrender your senses to a signature White Haven ceremony. When it’s all over, the steam room and outdoor Vichy shower await before you head back to reality.

5. World Class Events

The spoils keep on coming as qualia is also the home of a range of world-class events throughout the year, as well as specialising in corporate events and weddings. Plan your visit correctly, and you may find yourself rubbing shoulders with celebrity guests during these bespoke occasions.

The Australian Ballet - walking on water

The Australian Ballet will return to qualia in 2015 for the ‘pas de deux in paradise’ where you’ll be treated to open air performances, a black tie dinner and choreography master classes. For the lovers of all things luxurious and artisanal, Weekends of Wonderment offers the chance to get hands-on in craft workshops, floral arranging with Australia's 'First Lady of Flowers', Saskia Havekes, and gastronomic adventures with world-class chefs.
