With more than 700 stores in prominent locations, there are Flight Centre retail outlets not just in the big cities but also in many rural and regional towns around Australia. And each store is managed by a team of dedicated consultants ready to help arrange your next holiday. But have you ever considered what it's like to be on the other side of the desk - being the person assisting to organise fantastic getaways for appreciative customers? We asked five of our top consultants based in rural and regional Australia why they love working for Flight Centre.
Dominic Wolton, Flight Centre Earlville, Cairns
Dominic has been with Flight Centre for the past nine years. He loves the company culture, which promotes hard work and recognises that as Flight Centre continues to grow, this creates tremendous future opportunities. Dominic names Cape Town as one of his favourite cities and he loved taking a safari in one of the many reserves in South Africa.
Samantha Constance, Flight Centre Willows, Kirwan
Six months ago Samantha joined Flight Centre and hasn't looked back. When she was looking for a company to work for she wanted an organisation that was fun, it had to be a challenge and there needed to be plenty of room for growth. The potential to earn good cash was also important.
"Flight Centre ticks all these boxes, they know how to reward their staff and more importantly know how to throw a good party! Plus I'm a bit of a chatter box so I get to talk to people about awesome holidays every day. I'm already being given the opportunity to learn about a promotion - I have started training in preparation for when a position comes up and the uncapped commission drives me to work hard every day. It makes the role continually challenging and exciting," said Samantha.
"I've got two favourite travel destinations (so far). One is the Greek Island of Rhodes because I lived there for a few years - it's beautiful and the Greek people are inviting, friendly and like family. The other is Cambodia, the culture is amazing and the people really seem to appreciate you being there. Phnom Pehn, it's history and meeting the people, touched my heart and Angkor Wat was incredible."
Brooke Kos, Flight Centre Yeppoon
Brooke really appreciates the structure and policies of Flight Centre. She acknowledges that it's a little bit nerdish but working for a proven brand is important.
"I love that we get to work in a little group, but you are still part of a much larger organisation. Most of all it's about the people and friends I have made, and of course the travel opportunities," said Brooke.
When it comes to her favourite destination, it's a resounding tick for Bali. There's probably not much of the island she hasn't seen - having visited the popular destination 19 times. "I love the shopping and the culture of Bali. Every time I go it changes. It's just so close to Australia."
Stephanie Updike, Flight Centre Mt Pleasant, Mackay
Stephanie joined Flight Centre last year and hasn't looked back. "As a travel consultant I make people's dreams come true. My job is to help open up our amazing world to our clients allowing them to experience new things and new cultures. I feel that travel is vital for personal growth and to work for the leading company in this industry is wonderful. I also love that Flight Centre is a young at heart company and believes in egalitarianism of all staff. The company encourages that we change roles and inspires us to reach our full potential. Flight Centre offers support and opportunities to its employees unlike any other company I have worked for. Being a consultant isn't easy but that's OK because hearing the stories of my clients when they return from their travels makes everything worth while and is the best reward," said Stephanie.
"My favourite travel destination is BC, Canada. I love nature so travelling to the mountains of BC was breath taking for me. I really enjoyed all of the bears, deer and other wildlife I saw there as well as the amazing colour change in the trees in Autumn. I also loved living and working near a ski lodge because there was a huge population of other travellers. I met people from all over the world and made life long friends."
Lindy Sampson, Flight Centre Stockland Plaza, Townsville
Despite arranging travel for her Townsville customers for the past decade, Lindy still loves going to work everyday. "Flight Centre is an amazing company to work for; there are so many great people and opportunities to experience things and places you would otherwise not have had the chance to," she said.
"It is really hard to nominate my favourite travel destination because there are so many and every place I have visit is unique in it own way. But my favourite would have to be Africa - what an amazing place the people, the wildlife and the diversity. I also loved Thailand and New York."
