Sunrise Escapes to Fiji with Mums

6 May 2016

After travelling around Australia and the world, the Sunrise team thought it was time to treat their number one fans – their mums.

Sam, Kochie, Nat and Eddy invited their mums, dads, wives and mothers-in-laws to Fiji for a special Mother’s Day broadcast.

The invitation was extended to 50 of Sunrise’s nearest and dearest fans, through a Mother’s Day holiday package with Flight Centre to join the hosts at the Sofitel Fiji Resort and Spa.

The Waitui Club was the perfect set for this morning’s show under the Fijian sun and palm trees.

It was a blisteringly hot morning, so the fans cooled themselves in the infinity pool, while the hosts were made to sweat as they brought Australia the morning news. There was fire walking, kava tasting and the Cash Cow even had a dip in the pool – thanks to Sam’s Dad, who may have given her a loveable push.

After the broadcast, the Sunrise team, their mums and the 50 fans headed over to Fiji’s Coral Coast to the Intercontinental Resort for a special Mother’s Day lunch banquet.

Set along a white, sandy beach, coconut cocktails were served and everyone was welcomed with a Salusalus – a Fijian flower lei necklace.

Now this is what the mums had been waiting for. Everyone got a chance to kick back and relax with Sam, Kochie, Nat and Eddy over the most amazing grill lunch.

After a million rounds of photos (not everyone was looking at the camera after those cocktails), it was back to the Sofitel’s Waitui Club just in time for Happy Hour.

It seemed like coming to Fiji was the idea of most of the mums on the trip, rather than a treat from their kids.

So we can only hope that the kids have organised something nothing short of spectacular for Sunday morning before flying back to Australia.

But even if they’re at a loss at the gift store, it’s the memories we make with our family that will long outlast any card or gift we could ever buy.

From everyone at Flight Centre, have a wonderful Mother’s Day with your mum, wife or mother-in-law and remember that travelling together and making memories is the best present in life.

Travel for me is about conversations and connections. There’s nothing like setting foot in a new land and meeting people a world apart. From talking to North Sea fishermen in Norway’s Lofoten Islands to breakfast chat at a B&B in my own back yard, there’s always a story to share and a tale to tell.
