The Sunrise team spent its third day in Hawaii yesterday, where they'll be broadcasting for the entire week courtesy of Flight Center, Hawaii Tourism and Jetstar.

The excitement of the first two days clearly hadn't worn off as Kochie, Sam and the rest of the crew welcomed old friends to the stage, experienced more of the local culture, shared some memorable backstage moments and finished with the teaser for a Jaws-inspired adventure for Kochie.

Day 3: Getting Into The Hawaiian Spirit

The morning started with the Sunrise team enjoying every kid's dream breakfast: a traditional Hawaiian snack called 'Mochi', a rice cake wrapped around an ice cream filling.

It was only the second episode of Sunrise's Gilligan's Island remake (a tribute to the original 60s television show), but there were still plenty of cringe-worthy moments to enjoy. Despite the cast referring to it as 'dumb' and 'unanimously panned', Gilligan's Island is shaping up as one of the most addictive segments of the Hawaii broadcast – train-wreck television at its finest.

Shortly after, Kochie and Sam sat down with Hawaii local Kimi Werner who recently made headlines for swimming with Great White Sharks. Unbeknown to one of the hosts, this particular interview was foreshadowing an upcoming activity on day four.

There was a buzz on stage when Sunrise welcomed back a regular guest on the show, Guy Sebastian (Australia's nominated musician for Eurovision 2015), for the first of his two songs performed on the day. We sense a pattern emerging here. Which musicians will be turning up for the final three days?

Later in the morning there was time to spare for checking in with the lucky couple who will be getting married in Hawaii after winning the “Get Hitched In Hawaii” competition. Chris and Tara have spent their first few days in Honolulu doing a lot of wedding planning with a local company Karissma by Best Bridal Hawaii.

In true Hawaiian fashion, Sunrise finished its second broadcast with a Hawaiian shirt competition and a lesson in coconut husking.

And before the curtains could draw shut on another morning in Hawaii, viewers were given a sneak peek at the next episode (broadcast this morning), which put Kochie in a wetsuit and under the water with sharks.

Behind the scenes with Mark Beretta and the Cash Cow

Sunrise's Mark Beretta was feeling particularly festive on the third day, showcasing some questionable rapping skills backstage.

The Cash Cow wasn't about to miss out on all the fun, making the most of the water slide at the Hilton Hawaiian Village.

I love the kind of travelling that is one part strategic planning and two parts spontaneous adventure. Whether I'm exploring my local city or a small town in the middle of nowhere, I'm always hoping to find something no one else has discovered.
