Behind The Scenes With Sunrise In Hawaii: Day 5

Read Time: 1.7 mins

Yesterday morning was the second-last broadcast of Sunrise in Hawaii, organised through Flight Centre in collaboration with Hawaii Tourism and Jetstar.

It looked like Kochie, Sam and the rest of the team were living it up in Honolulu, celebrating a couple of significant milestones, getting cooking advice from an ex-Playboy Mansion chef and airing the next episode of their so-bad-it's-good Gilligan's Island remake.

Day 5: Playboy Mansion Secrets Revealed

Sunrise's fifth day on Hawaii started with a leisurely paddle boat ride just outside the Hilton Hawaiian Village, where Sunrise and 130 viewers have been staying since Saturday. Unfortunately for Kochie and Sam, their paddle boat ran a little off course, thanks to some questionable steering by Kochie.

After Kochie swam with sharks in Sunrise's previous episode, it was time for Nat and Mark to attempt their own adventurous challenges. Nat took to the skies above Hawaii during her paragliding challenge, with the Cash Cow joining her for a bit of moral support, while Beretts caught up with Kochie for some competitive canoeing.

It wouldn't be Hawaii without some love in the air, and there was plenty of it when Sunrise was visited by two honeymooners, Simon and Simone. Is it just us or were those two names made for each other?

Then it was time for the return of television's most highly slandered anticipated series: Sunrise's Gilligan's Island. Now in its third episode, viewers were eager to see what cringe-worthy one-liners Kochie and the gang would pull out in their tribute to the original television series of the same name. Oh, let's be honest, Gilligan's Island has quickly become our guilty pleasure.

Day 4: Behind The Scenes With Sunrise In Hawaii: Day 4

For their fourth episode of the week Sunrise brought in the girl-next-door of music, Carly Rae Jepsen, to perform her newest hit I Really Like You. The music video, which has been viewed more than seven million times on YouTube in only four days, features Tom Hanks and Justin Beiber.

Everyone was invited to celebrate Sunrise's Natalie Barr's incredible milestone of 20 years working for Network Seven, with a video montage of her broadcasts throughout the years. Close friends and colleagues also offered up some humorous anecdotes about the talented newsreader.

Towards the end of the show, the team was joined by JJ Reinhart, an ex-chef for the Playboy Mansion who has since started working in the kitchen at the Hilton Hawaiian Village. He cooked our hosts a delicious dish of local fish while sharing some secrets about the Playboy Mansion including Hugh Heffner's unusual eating habits.

As viewers of the show would now be accustomed to, Sunrise finished its fourth broadcast by showcasing another element of Hawaii's local culture. This time they took a lesson in lei making from former Lei Queen of Hawaii Lenore Klein. Later on, one of the 130 travelling viewers was given a Flight Centre prize for making the best lei.

I love the kind of travelling that is one part strategic planning and two parts spontaneous adventure. Whether I'm exploring my local city or a small town in the middle of nowhere, I'm always hoping to find something no one else has discovered.
