Team Leader Katie Abbott Experiences Canada’s Rocky Mountains The 5-Star Way

4 June 2014

During her six and a half years with Flight Centre, North Lakes Team Leader Katie Abbott has had the pleasure of travelling to many far off, exotic destinations, but few have come close to the magic of Canada’s Rocky Mountains.

“You really don’t understand how beautiful this country is until you get over there. It has so much to offer – if you enjoy fresh air, adventure and breathtaking views, you will love it!” says Katie.

Katie spent nine glorious days exploring British Columbia and the Rocky Mountains; starting off with two nights at Four Seasons in Vancouver, then onto Kelowna on Okanagan Lake, Emerald Lake, Banff, Lake Louise, Jasper and Kamloops on her Insight Vacations Gold luxury holiday. Here’s a glimpse into her Rocky Mountaineer adventure:

Sit back, relax and enjoy the ride on the GoldLeaf

With GoldLeaf you’re travelling in the lap of luxury, on a custom-designed glass-domed coach train. “Having the extra leg room and experiencing amazing resorts in stunning locations is a must. Taking the GoldLeaf for a trip through the Rocky Mountains is worth every extra penny compared to the Red and Silver Leaf,” says Katie.

Its 5-star all the way with Insight Vacations, as accommodation is largely provided at Fairmont Resorts and a selection of beautiful lodges in the mountains – “every single property was fantastic and unique it its own way. The best resorts were definitely the Emerald Lake Lodge and the Fairmont Banff Springs Castle!” she says.

“We took a Gondola Ride up the mountain in Banff – looking over the valleys and town. It was absolutely stunning!” Katie tells us.

With so many breathtaking views and scenes along the way, Katie said it was hard to choose just one experience that took her by surprise, but regaled in telling us about her Grizzly Bear experience, a truly memorable moment. “We waited for days, looking out for bears, then one day we were having lunch on the Rocky Mountaineer and we heard the hostess yell “Bear to the right! Bear to the right!” We looked out the window and there was a mother and baby bear walking through the forest. We were all so excited and everyone screamed and cheered. One of the girls even cried... it was such a special moment!” said Katie.

While the Rockies beckon adventure, there’s no denying this style of trip can be more relaxing than most. Katie was treated to liberal doses of rest and relaxation: “Staying at the gorgeous Emerald Lake Lodge and sitting out on my little balcony, looking out over the frozen lake and beautiful snow covered mountains while watching the sunrise was the most relaxing moment of the trip,” said Katie.

While riding on GoldLeaf is an experience in itself, Katie says there are lots of things to see and do in West Canada, she highly recommends spending at least two or three nights in each place. Having enjoyed her trip so much, she’s already brewing plans to go back in the near future.
