The One, The Only, Park City

19 November 2015

It's been a long time coming, a build up of close to a year, when the world would finally be able to experience America's largest ski resort.

Back in July, the combination of Park City and Canyons resorts was made official, giving the skiing and snowboarding world a new behemoth to master.

Aerial shots can't even cover the resort's expansive playground

"There is only one. Park City" is the brand's popular tag line, but we've all had to wait until the 2015-16 winter season to know if the resort lives up to its hype. Well, that moment has almost arrived.

“The tag line ‘There is only one’ is perfect because there is no place like Park City. The town is already universally celebrated as one of the best ski destinations in the world and now will be home to the largest ski resort in the United States," said Park City’s chief operating officer, Bill Rock, back when the unison was announced.

 Park City by the numbers

On 21 November, Park City opens to the public who will experience for the first time the improvements made by the $50-million project, which include a new high-speed gondola and Miners Camp restaurant.

Shaping up to be the resort's most impressive feature is of course the 2,954-plus hectares of skiable terrain featuring 300 diverse trails to challenge everyone from beginner to expert.

Australians interested in skiing or boarding at Park City might want to invest in Vail's new Epic Australia Pass, which grants access to nine US ski resorts along with Australia's Perisher.

I love the kind of travelling that is one part strategic planning and two parts spontaneous adventure. Whether I'm exploring my local city or a small town in the middle of nowhere, I'm always hoping to find something no one else has discovered.
