The Travel Expert’s Trifecta

Topdeck has the formula for the adventure of a lifetime nailed. Just don’t mention that ’t’ word.

They’re trips, not tours; group travel, but not as you know it. Topdeck does things a little differently, which is perfect for anyone who baulks at the idea of trailing after a guide who can’t remember your name – or worse, one who carries around a microphone while sightseeing.

Topdeck is focused on you; think no-hassle holidays with plenty of food, experiences, free time and local insights thrown into the mix. But, most importantly, their passion for travel translates into some seriously epic and authentic adventures.

Kyia from Flight Centre Greensborough is one Travel Expert who just can’t get enough of Topdeck; she’s just booked her third trip (to Africa) with the company, following a whirlwind journey through Vietnam.

“I love that with Topdeck, along with all the local insights, you have so much free time to do your own thing. The trip leaders are always amazing and so knowledgeable,” she says.

#Eatspo: must-try eats in Vietnam

Her highlights in the land of motorbikes and pho were almost too many to name, though she counts getting dusty in the Cu Chi Tunnels outside Ho Chi Minh City, buying tailor-made clothes and shoes in Hoi An, wandering the Imperial City of Hue, exploring the backstreets of Hanoi by cyclo, and a cruise around Halong Bay among her favourite moments.

“Halong exceeded all expectations, from the views to the luxuriousness of the junk boat. It was comfort all the way as we navigated magical limestone karsts and stopped off at a lookout to take in views over the whole bay. It was all so relaxing. The friendliness of the staff on board really made the trip.”

Kyia says the whole Topdeck experience is like travelling with a bunch of friends, which is an indication of how quickly you’ll bond with the group – solo adventurers, take note. So even if you’re going alone, you’re guaranteed to make a circle of instant friends to share these amazing experiences with.

“Topdeck really aren’t your typical ‘touring’ company. Both our trip leader Tien and local guides always made sure you were having a good time and felt comfortable. They also catered for the different things people wanted to see and do, and gave us a bunch of recommendations for places to eat too.”

Any trip to Vietnam wouldn’t be complete without the full foodie treatment, and included food tours in both Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City took Kyia and the group to many local haunts in the two cities.

“We went to places you’d never know were there without a guide. We tried a huge variety of traditional food, including the best banh mi place in Ho Chi Minh City. No one was hungry by the end,” Kyia adds.

As for nightlife, Tien offered up plenty of local insights. Kyia even spent a memorable night at the Mr Bean Bar in Hoi An – think beer pong table and souvenir Mr Bean t-shirts!

Kyia’s Vietnam vacay can be summed up in five words: diverse, (lots of) laughs, everything made easy.
