Everything is supersized in the USA and the same goes for their theme parks. World-record breaking rides are aplenty, with entertainment to suit the teens, tweens and everything in-between. Leave behind the daily grind and spend your days devouring Mickey-themed treats or laughing-out-loud at live stage shows, not to mention the heart-pounding thrills on the world’s best roller coasters.
If Los Angeles is calling, you can take the kids to enjoy the happiest place on earth, Disneyland Resort California. Enter the magical kingdom and meet your favourite characters at Disneyland Park. Divided into eight themed worlds, you can spend hours exploring the lay of the land. Fly away into the night on Peter Pan’s Flight or scream your way through the darkness on Space Mountain. Stick around in the afternoon for Mickey’s Soundsational Parade, complete with song and dance. Next door, Disney California Adventure Park dishes out more thrills with its collection of hair-raising rides.
On the other hand, Universal Studios Hollywood is equally enticing. Go behind-the-scenes on the Studio Tour and have the chance to explore the real working Universal Studios backlot but watch out for King Kong’s surprise appearance. There’s also the dizzying Simpsons Ride or have a dance off on the Despicable Me Minion Mayhem ride. Knotts Berry Farm is another family favourite in California, with an impressive collection of fear-inducing roller coasters and kid-friendly rides, plus oodles of live entertainment.
Over on the east coast, it’s hard to resist the allure of Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando, Florida. Boasting four individual theme parks and two water parks, it will take a few days to scratch below the surface. Magic Kingdom has six whimsical lands packed with Disney characters and fairytale adventures, while Epcot offers a futuristic world with award-winning fireworks. For a taste of Hollywood’s Golden Age, there’s Disney Hollywood Studios, while Disney’s Animal Kingdom is home to over 1,000 animals across six lands.
Universal Orlando is also a tempting option, with the fabulous Universal Studios Florida, Islands of Adventure and Wet ‘n Wild Waterpark at your fingertips. One of the theme park’s biggest drawcards is the spectacular Wizarding World of Harry Potter. Home to two different Harry Potter-themed lands, you can visit Hogwarts Castle, explore Hogsmeade village and enter Diagon Alley.
Right across the USA are also the popular Six Flags theme parks boasting a number of record-holding rides. From the world’s tallest roller coaster at Six Flags Great Adventure in Jackson to the fastest wooden roller coaster in the world at Six Flags Magic Mountain in Los Angeles. For nerve-racking, adrenaline-pumping, jaw-dropping thrill rides, look no further than Six Flags.
