One of the seven United Arab Emirates, Dubai offers some of the world's best shopping with the top international brands proudly displaying their offerings in mega malls. While there is a firm focus on shopping in Dubai's many malls, they are not just for shopaholics; you might discover a "mini-sea" aquarium, an Olympic sized ice rink, the world's largest ski slope, interactive fountains and fun themed areas for kids. Shop 'til you drop, by all means, but be sure to enjoy the many other attractions on offer.

Here are our top five Dubai malls.

Enjoy the Shopping Opportunities in Dubai

The Dubai Mall
It's the world's largest mall, with the world's largest aquarium; The Dubai Mall is proof that size matters. Discover 1200 speciality stores, an ice rink, an IMAX theatre, and an aquarium that holds the Guinness world record for "largest acrylic panel". While the children enjoy KidZania, browse the best abaya boutiques and shop 'til you drop beneath the "mini-sea" at your favourite designer stores.

Mall of the Emirates
In the heart of New Dubai, discover Mall of the Emirates, a 223 000 square metre mini-city. As if it were not enough to host more than 460 international labels, Mall of the Emirates also features 70 fine coffee shops and eateries, an indoor ski slope, multiplex cinemas, and a Magic Planet family entertainment centre. At Dubai Community Theatre & Arts Centre see an award-winning play or contemporary dance performance before checking in to the on-site hotel.

The Burjuman Centre, located in the heart of Dubai, is home to classic haute couture, with more than 300 luxury boutiques on site, including Saks 5th Avenue, Dior, Chanel, Hermes, Cartier and Bvlgari. Not just for platinum cardholders, you'll also find great ready-to-wear gear in the newer section of the mall from favourite labels such as Guess and DKNY. The kids will love the play area and the interactive fountain on the third floor.

Deira City Centre
Dubai's original one-stop shopping and entertainment destination, Deira City Centre sees about 20 million visitors annually, and for good reason. Arrive at Deira City Centre and receive a complimentary bottle of water from a friendly staff member before exploring over 350 retail outlets (including 33 jewellery stores), more than 40 restaurants, Bowling City, cinemas, and a Magic Planet activity centre for the kids.

Ibn Battuta Mall
The world's largest themed shopping mall, Ibn Battuta Mall was designed in six sections to celebrate the exotic places visited by acclaimed Arabic explorer, Ibn Battuta. India and Persia Court sections boast the best high-end shopping. With more than 275 retail outlets, 50 food outlets, 20 cinema screens and an IMAX theatre, as well as a dedicated Fun City for the kids, Ibn Battuta Mall has something to offer everyone. If the permanent stores and entertainment options are not enough, head to China Court, which is home to special events and markets throughout the year.

Xanthe Coward

Xanthe's favourite travel destinations are the Greek Islands, Indonesia, Fiji and Vanuatu. With a background in performing arts, fine food, wine and good times, Xanthe enjoys travel that brings her close to the locals and their leisure activities. Being a theatre reviewer means that Xanthe will always do dinner and a show before checking out the late night city scene and still be up early to find the markets and a decent pot of chai.
