Disney may have firmly cemented their status as the quintessential family holiday, but that doesn't mean they're sitting on their laurels. Each year, the parks around the world continue to innovate the family experience by incorporating new developments that span the spectrum from attractions to events. Here's a look at what you can expect to see across Disney parks around the world in 2017.
Walt Disney Resort in Florida
Perhaps one of the largest and most daring expansions to date at Disney's Animal Kingdom Theme Park, the park is set to open PANDORA –The World of Avatar mid-2017. Guests will be immersed in the visually-stunning world made famous by the James Cameron hit, with the opportunity to experience two expeditions that will truly push adventure to the next level.
The Na'vi River Journey is a family-friendly experience that will see guests set off down a sacred river hidden within a bioluminescent rainforest. The journey culminates in an unforgettable encounter with a Na'vi shaman. The Avatar Flight of Passage experience will see guests embarking on a jaw-dropping experience of riding on a Banshee over the world of Pandora.
Disneyland Resort in California
The Main Street Electrical Parade has returned to Disneyland Park! This marks a return home for the parade having not been seen in the park for nearly 20 years. It will continue to sparkle at the Resort until June 18, 2017.
Marvel fans, rejoice! The Happiest Place on Earth will see the arrival of the Guardians to the Galaxy – Mission: BREAKOUT! ride experience. It marks the first major introduction of the Marvel comics/cinematic universe to arrive in the California-based park and is expected to open late May/early June.
Aulani –A Disney Resort & Spa
On the heels of the Moana release, Aulani welcomed the newest Disney family member to its sunny shores. Guests can not only meet Moana herself but can also set out to discover their own inner adventurer with a Moana-inspired makeover in Painted Sky (Aulani's exclusive Tweens and Teens Kids Spa). You can also join Moana and Aulani's Uncle as they demonstrate how to build your own seafaring canoe to participate in a fun and spirited canoe race at the lagoon.
The resort and spa also saw the inclusion of a new full service Luau experience – Ka'Waa. Launched late last year, it is an evening of family entertainment with such exciting inclusions as pre-show activities (kapa printing, flower arranging, temporary kakau tattoos or pa'i ai taro punding), Luau introduction and oli welcome, buffet dining (complete with carving station, fresh local seafood, authentic island fare and more) and a Luau performance that brings local Hawaiian legends to life.
Hong Kong Disneyland
The first ever Marvel attraction introduced in a Disney park opened on January 10, 2017. The Iron Man experience not only gives fans the chance to meet the man himself, but also get up close to the iconic Iron Man MARK III suit, the arc reactor and the gravity-defying Iron Wing at the Stark Expo. You can even take flight with Iron Man above Hong Kong aboard the Expo Edition Iron Wing experience.
In April or May, the resort will launch its third onsite hotel. Disney Explorers Lodge is dedicated to the spirit of exploration and will encourage guests to leave the everyday world behind to enter a new world full of discover, nature and exotic cultures. It will feature four distinct gardens inspired by cultures from around the world as well as new themed restaurants, shop and a large outdoor pool.
This Parisian park is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year. This once in a lifetime experience will allow guests to "feel the magic like never before from 26th March 2017". To celebrate this birthday milestone, the resort will also be launching a few new attractions. This includes Star Wars – The Adventures Continue. The celebration will also see Disney Stars on Parade and the Disney Illuminations night-time spectacular.
Disney Cruise Line
Disney's new innovations aren't restricted to land, as their cruise line will also be introduced to the Marvel Universe in late 2017 and early 2018. Select Disney Cruise Line sailings will feature a day-long Marvel Day at Sea.
