Why Cruising is the Best Hen’s Party Idea

So you’ve done the hotel hen’s party, the wine tour hen’s, the high tea hen’s and the low-key-at-home hen’s affair. But have you ever thought about doing a cruise? It’s a no-brainer. You get all the benefits of every other kind of hen’s party all rolled into one epic getaway at sea with the girls. This is more than just a hen’s party – it’s a blissful, exciting and sun-kissed adventure. It’s the perfect hen’s party idea. Here’s why…

It’s so easy…

Literally everything you could need is right outside your cabin. No taxis. No long walks in search of food. No unfamiliar city streets to navigate (just a whole ship – but there’s a map and a concierge to help with that). So no worries!

Two friends kissing their friend on the cheek. A cruise is the ultimate girls' getaway.

It’s all inclusive…

Pay once and have it all: accommodation, entertainment, food and more activities than you could possibly handle! No splitting bills. No kitties to manage.

Did we mention the drinks packages?

Buy one of the drinks packages upfront and you’ll never get thirsty. It covers you for ALL drinks from the very second you step on board ‘til the final hours of your cruise. Go for the cocktails-and-all package or opt for a more basic option. It’s easy and it’s up to you.

The entertainment is non-stop…

They literally slip a program under your door every day so you won’t miss the next day’s line-up. There’s THAT much to do. Think ice-skating extravaganzas, Broadway-worthy theatre, hilarious comedy skits and musicals as big as “Mamma Mia!” and “Rock of Ages”. Plus there are bands, movies on deck, pool parties, hilarious game shows and copious rounds of good ol’ trivia.

Plus more fun activities…

Ever wanted to try ice skating or sky diving? Like the idea of rock climbing or zip-lining? Or just want to chill out over some table tennis or mini golf? Depending on the cruise ship, you could find yourself doing anything from laser tag to surfing on a wave simulator (under the expert guidance of a very cute instructor).

You could even learn a new skill…

Some cruises offer cool classes on board, like dance classes and cupcake-decorating lessons. Our fave? Mixology classes.

But you can always just kick back and relax…

You can always just do nothing at all. The pools and spas and sunny decks are perfect for just that. Or else retreat to your cabin for some tunes and flicks. Zero pressure.

You can wear your bikini all day long…

Just remember to add sunscreen…

You can still bar-hop…

There are so many bars to choose from – classy bars, chill bars, funky bars, bars with views. There are pubs and often nightclubs too. And you can always grab drinks by the pool!

There are no tattoo parlours on board…

Or anything else you might majorly regret the next morning…

You can recover with pampering…

Massage. Check. Pedis and manis. Check. A new haircut. Check. Indulgent onboard spas and salons mean you can wind up looking better stepping off the cruise than you did when you got on.

There are hip restaurants…

It’s not all about the buffets and traditional dining, you know. Specialty restaurants dish up globally-inspired eats in atmospheric little corners of the ship. Even celebrity chefs have set up kitchen on board, from Luke Mangan to Curtis Stone.

And yes, you can get a late-night pizza on the way ‘home’.

You can still exercise…

If you want to that is... Just head to the onboard fitness centre. Though we’d prefer to take the stairs over the lift, tread water in the pools and slip down the slides.

Step ashore on beautiful beaches and islands.

You'll wake up to new destinations on your doorstep…

The true beauty of cruising? That you can see the world – or parts of it. Depending on how long you cruise for, you could step off to explore sunny New Caledonia, Vanuatu and Fiji, trace the shores of New Zealand or simply travel between Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne on an ocean voyage for something different.

Alternatively, you could cruise to nowhere in particular. A short, two-night sampler cruise is a great way to soak up the cruise ship atmosphere in the midst of beautiful, blue seas and sunny skies.

You could score some great group perks…

Depending on how many people in the group, you could bag some extra discounts and points, or fun experiences like a wine welcome reception, group photo shoot or complimentary venue hire. Got more than 20? You might even be able to arrange private onshore excursions.

It’s the hen’s party you’ll never forget!

What happens on the cruise, stays on the cruise. This is one hen’s night event to remember!

Tijana loves new adventures as much as she enjoys reliving old ones. Favourite stops on the map so far include Greece (beyond the islands!), Mexico City (hello ancient ruins and wonderful art), Poland (for the history and off-the-beaten-track finds), Berlin (so artsy and chilled) and Bosnia (ahhh the natural beauty). Choosing is always hard though - that's why her list is so long and she spends her 'real life' time writing about travel until she's out there on the road again.
