Forget the spa – for some people it’s all about the tub. A long, deep soak in the privacy of your own luxury hotel room is hard to beat. Whether you like a bathroom with a view or a place to hole up in utter seclusion, these 5-star bathing beauties will leave you feeling refreshed.

For all-out extravagance, try the Burj Al Arab Jumeirah in Dubai. When you have finished sightseeing in your chauffeur-driven Rolls-Royce, or tired of watching films in your private cinema, ask your personal butler to draw you a bath in your palatial Royal Two-Bedroom Suite. It features two master bathrooms with full-size Jacuzzis, and separate five-head rain showers, complete with Hermes amenities. Just don’t drop your 24-carat gold iPad in the bath.

A favourite of royalty, dignitaries and celebrities, this 150-year-old ‘Grand Hotel’ holds court at the top of London’s Regent Street. The elegant, two-bedroom Infinity Suite features a lavish marble infinity bath so you can soak up to your neck with ease, while sipping on the complimentary Champagne you received on arrival, before heading out to the theatre in the West End. Oh, and it’s only £16,200 ($A34,400) a night.

South Australia’s chic Southern Ocean Lodge sits on a secluded cliff overlooking the Southern Ocean and Kangaroo Island wilderness. Enjoy the views to the horizon as you luxuriate in your hand-sculpted granite bath in the super premium Osprey Pavilion – you may even spot a kangaroo hopping by. The limestone floors are heated, and there is a deluxe rain shower, if you can bear to forgo the bath.

The luxe Presidential Suite – all white furnishings and cream-coloured walls – on the fifth floor of the Boscolo Exedra Nice on the French Riviera, is like living in a cloud, and the marble bathroom with its large, round tub is no different. Sneak some of those rose petals into the bath for a perfumed reverie. The historical hotel welcomes pets, so afterwards you can take little Fifi for a stroll along Nice’s famous Promenade des Anglais beside the beach.
Six Senses Yao Noi, Koh Yao Noi

Take in the sweeping panoramas of Thailand’s Phang Nga bay from your bathtub among the treetops at Six Senses Yao Noi. Soak your cares away in the Ocean Panorama Pool Villa as you imagine how to spend your stay – perhaps a longtail boat trip among the ‘forest of islands’ or diving among the coral reefs in the bay. Maybe a glass of vino from your specialised wine fridge will assist your creative process. Cheers!
