12 Reasons Animals Are Photobomb Ninjas

6 May 2015

There must be an animalistic instinct to photobombing. When I attempt to furtively goof off in someone's photo I usually time it wrong and end up out of frame or looking unintentionally creepy.

Yet these animals have somehow mastered the art, producing photobombs that will forever reign in the annals of time. What's their secret? Let's find out.

1. They can strike on land or in water

This sea turtle has executed a flawless photobomb in the water off Apo Island in the Philippines. Gaze into those deep, dark eyes and you will find the photobombing wisdom you seek.

To the untrained eye blinds are merely a dull background. However, to this little legend in the making, they are full of photobombing potential.

3. They're adept at utilising all of their photobombing assets

If it were just the bottom you could mistake this for an accident, but that sneaky glance back tells us everything we need to know about Fido's photobomb intentions.

4. They can strike from above

Sloths are known to move only when necessary; for food, escaping predators and photobombing.

5. They know how to get a reaction

Notice the top of the man's head behind the ray? Looks like humans and sea creatures should combine forces more often in the photobombing world.

6. Not even Heritage-listed sites are immune

Llamas know how to steal the show, even when the star is the World Heritage-listed Machu Picchu in Peru.

7. They can inject humour into almost any situation

One horse just couldn't resist the temptation to add some goofiness, even during a historical re-enactment.

8. They're not afraid to get physical

I'm not sure if biting should ever be anyone's go-to photobomb move, but if anyone can pull it off, it's this camel.

9. They can turn ordinary photos into internet sensations

Without one squirrel's input, the above photograph would've been of a couple at Canada's Banff National Park, good for a few likes on Facebook. Thanks to the little guy's photobomb, this picture became world-wide news.

10. Their cuteness is off the charts

The Quokka is a marsupial native to Australia and easily one of the best selfie buds. This Quokka took it upon himself to get involved and clearly enjoyed the moment.

11. They always nail what face to pull

You could've looked surprised, sad or inquisitive. But you went with slit eyes and now you've got us wondering whether you despise the photographer, dislike that someone's photographing the dog or have secretly hatched a diabolical plan. Well played cat.

12.They're not afraid to get in close

Maybe I need to add big lips and tongue to my repertoire (image: acidcow.com)

Some photobombers prefer to linger in the background Hollywood-stalker style. Not this giraffe. She's cut right into the foreground and given this photo the one-two tongue and lips combo.

I love the kind of travelling that is one part strategic planning and two parts spontaneous adventure. Whether I'm exploring my local city or a small town in the middle of nowhere, I'm always hoping to find something no one else has discovered.
