Flight Centre Travel Expert, Kim Cannon, recently returned from a 14-day Western Explorer tour with Globus. Starting in Los Angeles, he toured a variety of national parks and canyons, stopping in Las Vegas before completing the journey in San Francisco. We chatted to Kim about his American adventure.
What were the highlights of your holiday?
We were able to visit Grand Canyon National Park, Bryce Canyon, Zion National Park and Yosemite National Park. Each stop offered different scenery and wildlife, and it was surprising to see just how unique each canyon was. One of my highlights was Lake Powell, where we had plenty of free time to check out Antelope Slot Canyon with a Navajo guide. We also enjoyed a cruise through the narrow canyons for a unique view.
Other highlights included a helicopter flight over the Grand Canyon, exploring the attractions and quirkiness of San Francisco, and feeling like a kid again at Disneyland. For us, Las Vegas was not the party stop many people associate with the city. Instead, we explored iconic hotels and casinos, made our own personalised chocolates at M&M’s World and went outlet shopping along the Strip.
What did a typical day look like?
Each day was different but it always started with a delicious breakfast. We would set off for a day of sightseeing and activities, but there was also plenty of free time during the day and in the evening to relax at our leisure. Some nights we would dine as a group, which was a great way to get to know everyone.
Tell us about touring with Globus
My girlfriend and I had travelled independently before, making our own way around and organising our own activities. What we enjoyed most about the tour was that we didn’t have to think about what was next – everything was taken care of by Globus. Our Tour Director even found a place where I could watch the AFL Grand Final. It was also the first holiday where we didn’t fight about anything during the trip!
Who would you recommend this particular tour to?
Honestly, it would be enjoyed by anyone. There was a mix of passengers, from older travellers to families with kids.
Would you go back?
Yes! We loved America and would be interested in seeing more national parks like Yellowstone, plus we still haven’t been to the East Coast, or explored Canada or South America!
