Sixteen Queensland tourism operators from across the state have claimed top honours at the Qantas Australian Tourism Awards this evening.

The best in Australian tourism gathered at the Adelaide Convention Centre, where the Queensland winners were among 27 state finalists, representing eight out of the 13 tourism regions.

Prestigious winners include the Woodford Folk Festival, which hosts six nights of concert, dance, theatre, film, comedy and art annually on the Sunshine Coast, and the Toowoomba Carnival of Flowers, which sets the Southern Queensland Country town abloom each Spring.

Big hitter Dreamworld was crowned as a top tourist attraction, while charming Sunny Coast bed and breakfast Bli Bli House took home the gold for best hosted accommodation.

"It’s a coup for the entire state to have 16 Queensland businesses and events honoured on a national level," says Queensland Tourism Industry Council's Chief Executive Daniel Gschwind.

Mr Gschwind says the national recognition is testament to the dedication of Queensland businesses to continually raise the bar when it comes to quality tourism experiences for travellers.

Now in its 30th year, the Australian Tourism Awards are the tourism industry’s most celebrated awards program, recognising excellence in tourism Australia-wide.
