Virgin Australia has removed the 'Saver Lite' fare class and dropped checked-in baggage charges for its economy cabin passengers effective March 17.
The airline has consolidated its fare types to just three; Saver, Flexi and Business - which all have a minimum 23kg baggage allowance included.
All tickets booked post 17 March will have checked baggage included in the fare. All tickets booked prior to 17 March will still be required to pay for baggage according to the previous charge system in accordance with the specific fare type.
A Virgin spokesperson confirmed the change was due to strong customer feedback.

Checked-In Baggage Limits
Checked baggage that exceeds the weight limit will attract overweight baggage fees. Excess baggage is accepted on a space available basis by the airline depending on available cargo space.
Each piece of baggage must not weigh more than 32kg or exceed the total linear dimensions of 140cm (length + width + height).
Sporting equipment and other bulky items represent one piece of checked baggage. Excess charges will apply for oversized or overweight items.
Passengers with bags over the designated allowance can purchase extra baggage online or through the call centre prior to their flight departure. Charges apply as per below.
Baggage Purchased at the Airport
Baggage charges will incur higher fees at the airport. The below table reflects the current applicable charges.
Tickets booked prior to 17 March
All 'Saver Lite' fares booked prior to 17 March will still be required to pay for baggage. This can be pre-purchased online or through the call centre or paid on the day of departure at the airport.
Tickets booked post 17 March
All tickets booked after 17 March will include at least one bag. The number of bags and applicable weight limit will be in accordance with the fare type and Velocity status.
