Unique wildlife experiences, first class service and unforgettable memories were all part of Tori Standen’s Canadian adventure with APT. Assistant Team Leader at Flight Centre Warriewood, Tori was thrilled to join APT’s Majestic Rockies tour, taking in the many sights of Vancouver, Victoria, Whistler and onwards to Jasper and Banff. We asked Tori to share more about her Canadian adventure.
What was your favourite part of the holiday?
Jasper National Park and the Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge were my favourite part of the tour. The scenery in the national park was truly spectacular. We were fortunate enough to be there when Maligne Lake was still frozen and were able to walk on it. The Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge sits on the edge of a beautiful lake and there are views of the lake or mountains from every room.
Tell us about some of the highlights.
My highlights were the Maligne Lake Tour, flying over the Rockies in a helicopter and visiting the Butchart Gardens in Victoria. The gardens were spectacular and arriving in April, we were there for tulip season! We even got to ride the carousel, taking us all back to our childhoods.
Any shore excursions you would recommend?
I would highly recommend whale watching in Victoria. Having the opportunity to watch Orca in the wild was a magical and moving experience. We were fortunate enough to see a calf too!
What was the surprising moment of the trip?
There are two moments that really surprised me on the trip. The first was seeing a grizzly bear casually moving down the side of the highway and the second was experiencing a mini avalanche walking around the edge of Lake Louise. The sunshine and warm weather in April meant there was shifting snow around Lake Louise. The sound was just incredible as it bounced off the sides of the mountains.
Do you have a foodie highlight?
Combining two of Canada’s staples created my foodie highlight – maple baked salmon. The salmon is cooked on a cedar plank in the oven and basted with a sweet maple syrup glaze. Yum!
What did a typical day look like on your holiday?
A typical day started with an early rise to enjoy the spectacular scenery of where we were staying, followed by an awesome buffet breakfast. From there it was onto the bus for our next destination. Along the way, we would hear about the unique areas we were travelling through, often stopping for photographs and to soak up the atmosphere. We were able to enjoy some wonderful, once-in-a-lifetime experiences before arriving at our next hotel. From there it was some down time before another beautiful meal and a glass of wine or two.
Do you have any advice for others interested in seeing Canada?
I would highly recommend APT’s Majestic Rockies tour to anyone who enjoys the little luxuries in life. APT exceeded my expectations and I enjoyed such a seamless experience. Our Tour Director and bus driver were both very knowledgeable and all the accommodations were very centrally located. I would definitely do it again, but next time I would also include an Alaskan cruise!
