Arguably the best (and most exhilarating) lookout point in Brisbane, the Story Bridge Climb offers an unforgettable walking adventure that takes you 80 metres above sea level to experience panoramic views of the city.
Brisbane’s cantilever Story Bridge stretches for 1,072 metres across the meandering Brisbane River, connecting the northern and southern suburbs of the city. The Story Bridge Adventure Climb is an exciting way to get acquainted with this iconic landmark and with just three bridge climbs operating around the world (the Sydney Harbour Bridge and the Auckland Harbour Bridge are the other two), it is a rare opportunity to witness a buzzing metropolis from dramatic heights.
The experience offers climbers information about the history of the bridge as well as intriguing facts about Brisbane, before they ascend to the panoramic viewpoint. The climb is intentionally relaxed and slow-paced so climbers can enjoy the views along the way – and it's an experience for people of pretty much any fitness level. Besides breathtaking 360-degree views of Brisbane from the top, you can also relish the vistas of beautiful Moreton Bay to the east and the Scenic Rim mountain range to the west.
A choice of day climbs and twilight climbs is available for this two-hour adventure and a professional photographer is on hand to capture the thrill of the journey. While parking is available on nearby Wharf Street, a scenic way to arrive is by taking the free CityHopper ferry to Thornton Street terminal and walking left up Main Street.
When you’re ready to come back down to Earth, you can head to the nearby South Bank Parklands for a stroll around the Epicurious Garden, have a bite to eat at one of the gourmet cafes and eateries or frolic on the sand at Australia’s only inner city man-made beach – the iconic Streets Beach.
