Australia’s favourite holiday destination, Queensland is all about beaches, resorts and year-round warm weather. Flanked by the Great Barrier Reef and a string of tropical islands, the sunshine state, with its rainforest and vast outback plains beyond the coastal fringe, offers almost any type of holiday you can imagine.
World Heritage wilderness with towering rainforest, massive sand dunes, beautiful freshwater lakes with crystal-clear water, endless stretches of beach, dolphins, dugongs and dingoes are just some of the drawcards of Fraser Island, the world’s largest sand island – and arguably one of the most beautiful as well.
A combination of golden beaches, a green mountain hinterland and the most varied theme park attractions in Australia make the Gold Coast a holiday playground. The glittering high-rise strip has some of the country’s best shopping, and with more than 500 cafes, restaurants and bars there’s always somewhere to party once the sun goes down.
Tropical North Queensland
The rainforest meets the Great Barrier Reef in far north Queensland near Cairns. Snorkel or dive the reef, explore the Daintree rainforest and historic Atherton Tablelands, go white water rafting or deep sea fishing, ride the scenic railway and take a cable car high above the rainforest canopy.
