No doubt Niagara Falls is impressive admired front-on but, to really appreciate the tumbling water, consider a Journey Behind The Falls. Standing behind this massive sheet of water, you can truly appreciate the might and majesty of Niagara's iconic natural wonder.
Located behind Horseshoe Falls in Table Rock, this incredible tunnel tour will take you deep below the surface – some 45 metres, in fact! Standing in the spray zone on the upper or lower observation decks, you will be witness to one-fifth of the world's fresh water tumbling into the basin below.
Descending to the base of Horseshoe Falls by elevator, a short tunnel then leads to two outdoor observation decks directly behind the raging torrents. The elevator travels through bedrock tunnels that lead to the Cataract Portal and Great Falls Portal, one third of the way around the falls.
The entire journey takes between 30 and 45 minutes and is a must-do Niagara Falls attraction. Prices are currently $CAD16.75 for adults and $CAD10.95 for children, not including tax. If you suffer from claustrophobia, you may want to stay on dry land as the tunnels are quite dark and narrow.
If you visit in summer or spring – which are great options as there are longer operating hours – you will also receive a souvenir rain poncho, to wear and take with. In winter, the Lower Observation remains closed due to ice. However, because of this, admission costs are dropped for $CAD11.25 for adults and $CAD7.30 for children, plus tax.
