Gold Coast Information

The popularity of the region since the 1950's has exploded and there is a wide range of brilliant attractions to compliment the natural environment. Hundreds of restaurants, theme parks, a Casino and a superb nightlife are just the begining. The northern part of the coast is where most of the action is and you can find plenty of places to party the night away and restaurants that range from cheap and easy to the best in five star dining. Surfers Paradise is the busiest of the tourist areas at the north part of the Gold Coast, but there is also the Broadwater which is protected by Stradbroke Island and is a haven for boating, with a major marina precinct, huge waterside parks and is immediately adjacent to the SeaWorld theme park. Main Beach is also at the north end of the Gold Coast and is a more refined district, with upmarket hotels, bars and restaurants. Of course the action packed areas of the north do not overshadow the gorgeous beaches, after all the name 'Surfers Paradise' had to come from somewhere.

Coolangatta is the Gold Coast's most southerly beach officially but of course the coastline continues south from here into the stunning Northern New South Wales, renowned as one of Australia's most laid back areas. Byron Bay, Mount Warning and dozens of other beachside and hinterland communities are just a short drive away.

Heading west from the water you can get into the cool forest areas of the Gold Coast Hinterland. Here you will discover tens of thousands of hectares of World Heritage listed nature reserves, a pristine environment of cool streams and forest clad mountains and valleys. It's a world away from the sun, sand and partying of the coastal zone and perfect for a change of pace. There are plenty of mountain retreats, health spas and even farm stays where you can stay to unwind in the area. Head up the hill to Mount Tambourine for a stroll through a charming mountain village, in summer it is often several degrees cooler and in winter it's the perfect place to snuggle up by a warm fire in a cottage or guest house.

The Gold Coast is a remarkable place - no matter your taste there will be plenty for you to enjoy, from the most lively nightclubs to lonely beaches, it's a safe bet for an awesome holiday.
