Egypt is situated in north-eastern Africa with Cairo as its capital. The country is bordered by Jordan and Saudi Arabia to the east, Israel and the Gaza Strip to the north-east, Sudan to the south and Libya to the west. Egypt is bounded by the Red Seas to the east and the Mediterranean to the north and dominated geographically by the Nile River and the Eastern and Western deserts.

Egypt’s world-renowned treasures, iconic pyramids and medieval bazaars have attracted visitors for centuries. This country is rich in natural beauty and vibrant in contemporary culture, a wonderland for any western traveller and perhaps one of the most popular tourist destinations world-wide. Ancient Greeks, Romans, Pharaonic nations, Christians and Arab dynasties have all played a role in forming Egypt’s architectural wealth. Cairo’s medieval core is still present since the founding days of Islam and Luxor, and is lined with opulent burial chambers and formidable monuments. Aswan (further south) has temples displaying the power of archaic gods and omnipotent pharaohs and it is here that the Nile should be explored on an Egyptian sailing boat to truly feel the magic of this land.

Out west, Egypt’s never ending desert stretches infinitely to the Sahara where bubbling springs and ghostly rock formations are interspersed with medieval fortresses. Meanwhile the waters of the Red Sea sits quietly, filled with brilliant coral and a frenzy of underwater life. Modern day Egypt exists with an erratic economy and rising living costs however Egyptians are a resilient group and travellers visiting Egypt will find a feast of ancient history together with an abundance of hospitality.
