Sydney has been selected as the first destination to experience the new Singapore Airlines premium economy seats. The new premium seats will be installed on Airbus A380 and Boeing 777-300ER aircraft and will debut from 9 August 2015.

“We are delighted that Sydney will be the launch market for our new premium economy class,” a Singapore Airlines spokeswoman said. “While we have yet to determine at what stage it will be deployed to Melbourne, we’re hopeful this move will further our premium positioning in Australia.”

Passengers looking to fly in the new premium class will have to depart from Sydney or Melbourne. Currently the carrier has no plans to upgrade other aircraft in their fleet including the smaller A330 aircraft used on services from Brisbane, Perth, Adelaide and Darwin.

New Premium Economy seats will be in a 2x4x2 configuration.

With premium economy designed to bridge the gap between traditional economy and business class, Singapore Airlines is just the latest in a long list of airlines to add the cabin to their fleet. Qantas, Virgin Australia, Cathay Pacific, Air New Zealand and British Airways have all increased their cabin offerings to include the increasingly popular mid-range cabin class product.

“We have been heartened by the highly positive public reaction to our new Premium Economy Class since our plans were announced last year.”

We are confident it will be well received by travellers who are looking for more features – in the seat design, in-flight offerings and exclusive privileges – all underpinned by the exceptional service that Singapore Airlines is well known for, both on the ground and in the air." said Singapore Airlines’ CEO, Mr Goh Choon Phong.
