Start off your central European adventure in the vibrant capital of Germany - Berlin. Split for almost 30 years by the Berlin Wall, the former East and West Berlin have still retained their differences with the East end of the city emerging as a hip and trendy area for young Berliners. Whether exploring the iconic sights of Berlin - such as the East Side Gallery, Brandenburg Gate and the Reichstag building - or enjoying one of the many cool bars and restaurants that have popped up throughout the city, Berlin is a fascinating city with a rich past, and one that just begs to be explored.
Boarding the train from Berlin, a 4 hour scenic ride through the European countryside will take you into the heart of Prague. One of the most charming cities of Europe, Prague is a treasure trove of incredible architecture, gothic flair, and an old world charm that will transport you back to the Europe of old. From the Astrological Clock in the Old Town Square, to the statues along the Charles Bridge, it is impossible not to be captivated by everything Prague has to offer. On your final day in Prague you will take a trip out to Kutna Hora, a quaint UNESCO heritage city famed for the Sedlec Ossuary - a chapel filled with over 40,000 human bones!
Continuing on with your rail journey through Europe, today you will travel from Prague to Vienna. The Austrian capital is world renowned for its rich culture, gifting the world with composers such as Beethoven, Mozart, Strauss, and Bach, as well as painters such as Klimt, and is where renowned psychologist Sigmund Freud studied. The city itself is home to beautiful architecture, with baroque and gothic buildings lining the winding Danube river, and an abundance of trees and nature which have made Vienna the greenest city in the world. Whilst in Vienna, savour the local flavours on a Vienna food, coffee and market tour with Urban Adventures - taking in the rich flavours, including goulash, seasonal strudels, Austrian wine or beer, and more.
For your final stop in central Europe, you will enjoy three days in the Hungarian capital of Budapest. Set along the Danube, be sure to visit both sides of the city - the Buda side on the west bank, with medieval buildings and a relaxed charm, as well as the Pest side on the east bank, known for its iconic landmarks and nightlife. For a uniquely Budapest experience, visit the ruin bars for an evening drink, or enjoy a day relaxing in the warm waters of the Szchenyi thermal baths. On Saturdays from February to December, the thermal baths turn into a party from 9:30pm with electronic dance music, DJ's and lasers, so if the idea of partying in thermal waters while its 5 degrees outside appeals, this may be one to tick off the bucket list.
