Itinerary

Experience the best of both vibrant city life and tranquil coastal charm on a holiday that begins in dynamic New York City and unfolds along the scenic shores of Montauk. In the city, immerse yourself in world-famous attractions—from climbing to dizzying heights at SUMMIT One Vanderbilt with sweeping views of the Empire State Building, to marveling at architectural wonders like The Oculus and Little Island Park. Discover iconic landmarks such as the Statue of Liberty, explore world-class art at the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA), and enjoy unforgettable performances on Broadway and at Lincoln Center. Wander through the lush greenery of Central Park surrounded by towering skyscrapers, and lose yourself in diverse neighborhoods bursting with culture, shopping, and culinary delights along Fifth Avenue or nearby outlet malls.

After the city's energetic pulse, escape to Montauk’s serene beaches and historic lighthouse, where coastal tranquility takes center stage. Here, unwind amid sandy shores, explore charming villages, and indulge in fresh seafood by the water. Montauk offers a peaceful retreat with opportunities for hiking, visiting local breweries, and experiencing the laid-back lifestyle of the Hamptons. Together, New York City and Montauk provide the perfect blend of urban excitement and seaside relaxation, with the wider state of New York inviting you to extend your journey to breathtaking natural wonders, quaint towns, and renowned wineries and breweries beyond the city limits.

Day 1 New York
Once you arrive and settle into your hotel, start with a classic NYC lunch - try a pastrami sandwich at Katz’s Deli or something lighter at The Modern near MoMA. Spend the afternoon visiting Rockefeller Center and heading up to the Top of the Rock for breathtaking views that include the Empire State Building and Central Park. Wander down 5th Avenue to see iconic stores like Saks and Tiffany & Co., and if time allows, pop into St. Patrick’s Cathedral. For dinner, Hell’s Kitchen offers a diverse restaurant scene - from Italian trattorias to sushi bars. Consider catching a Broadway show afterward or soak in the electric nighttime vibe of Times Square.

Start your day in Central Park, visiting spots like Bow Bridge, Bethesda Terrace, and the Conservatory Garden for serene beauty. Rent a bike or take a leisurely walk. Head to the Metropolitan Museum of Art, where you can easily spend several hours exploring art from ancient Egypt to modern masterpieces. If you prefer natural history, the nearby American Museum of Natural History is fantastic, especially the dinosaur exhibits and the planetarium. For lunch, try a classic New York deli or a café on the Upper West Side. In the afternoon, stroll the High Line park—a beautifully landscaped elevated rail line with art installations and views of the Hudson River - and explore Chelsea Market’s vibrant food stalls. Dine at a rooftop restaurant like The Press Lounge or enjoy classic NYC steakhouse fare at Peter Luger or Keens.

Explore the Financial District: Wall Street, the Charging Bull, and the 9/11 Memorial & Museum. The Staten Island Ferry is a must-do for free, up-close views of the Statue of Liberty and NYC’s skyline. Walk the iconic Brooklyn Bridge, snapping photos of Manhattan’s skyline. In Brooklyn, DUMBO is perfect for pizza at Juliana’s or browsing artisanal shops. Walk along the Brooklyn Heights Promenade for stunning views and charming brownstones. If time allows, explore Williamsburg’s trendy boutiques, cafés, and bars. For dinner, try a hip spot like Lilia or a laid-back brewery taproom. End your night with rooftop cocktails overlooking Manhattan.

Explore the artistic vibes of SoHo’s cast-iron buildings and boutique shops, or the bohemian charm of Greenwich Village, where you can visit Washington Square Park and grab brunch at an iconic café like Café Cluny. Chelsea offers art galleries and the Chelsea Market food hall. Don’t miss a walk on the High Line if you haven’t yet, or venture to the West Village for charming streets and excellent eateries. For your last NYC evening, consider dinner at a speakeasy-style restaurant or an intimate jazz club like the Village Vanguard.

Day 5 New York to Montauk
In the morning, collect your rental car and set out on the roughly three-hour scenic drive east through Long Island’s North Fork or the Long Island Expressway. Depending on your timing, consider a quick detour to visit charming towns like Greenport or Southold on the North Fork, known for wineries and farm stands. Arriving in Montauk, check into your accommodation and relax. For dinner, savour fresh seafood at places like The Dock or Gosman’s, with waterfront views and a relaxed atmosphere perfect for unwinding.

Day 6 Montauk
Start with a visit to Montauk Point Lighthouse, New York’s oldest lighthouse, perched on cliffs with panoramic views of the Atlantic. Spend the late morning at Ditch Plains Beach, popular with surfers and sunbathers alike, or Kirk Park Beach for a quieter vibe. In the afternoon, explore Hither Hills State Park, where you can hike trails, enjoy a freshwater lake, or just relax in nature. You might also want to check out Montauk’s small boutiques and art galleries downtown. For dinner, try farm-to-table spots like Harvest on Fort Pond or casual seafood joints. If you’re up for it, a nightcap at Montauk Brewing Company’s taproom is a local favourite.

Use this day to explore the nearby Hamptons area, just a short drive west. Visit East Hampton’s quaint village, famous for upscale shops, galleries, and gourmet eateries. Stop by beaches like Main Beach or Coopers Beach if you want more sun and sand. The towns of Sag Harbor and Southampton are charming with historic architecture, boutique shops, and waterfront dining. If you prefer wine, the Long Island Wine Country with its vineyards in nearby Cutchogue or Southold offers tours and tastings. Return to Montauk for dinner, perhaps trying the seafood-centric Navy Beach or a casual burger spot like The Surf Lodge.

Enjoy a peaceful last morning on the beach or grab a coffee at a local café like Love Lane Kitchen. If you missed anything earlier, like the Montauk Farmers Market or a final stroll through town, this is the time. Begin your approximately three-hour drive back to NYC, leaving plenty of time to return your rental car and catch your flight or train. If your schedule allows, consider a relaxed meal in the city before departing.
