Itinerary

An unforgettable 12-day road trip through the heart of New York State, starting and ending in the iconic New York City. Experience the vibrant energy of NYC with visits to Central Park, Times Square, the Statue of Liberty, and world-class museums before picking up your car to explore the stunning Hudson Valley. Wander across the breathtaking Walkway Over the Hudson in Poughkeepsie, tour historic sites like the Franklin D. Roosevelt Presidential Library, and savor local wines and farm-to-table dining in charming small towns.

Continue your journey north into the majestic Adirondacks, where the sparkling lakes and mountain vistas of Lake George and Lake Placid await. Enjoy outdoor adventures like hiking, boating, and exploring Olympic history, balanced with leisurely strolls through quaint villages. Conclude your trip in Albany, the capital city, where history, culture, and architecture abound. From immersive museums to scenic river walks, this road trip perfectly blends urban excitement, natural beauty, and rich heritage for an inspiring and diverse New York State experience.

Begin your adventure in the vibrant heart of New York City. Start with a morning stroll through Central Park, then head to Times Square to experience its buzzing energy. In the afternoon, visit the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) or the American Museum of Natural History, depending on your interests. End your day with dinner in a trendy neighbourhood like Greenwich Village or SoHo, enjoying world-class dining and vibrant nightlife.

Dedicate this day to some of NYCs must-see landmarks. Take the ferry to the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island for a dose of history and stunning views of the skyline. Afterwards, walk through the Financial District, visit the 9/11 Memorial & Museum, and then cross the Brooklyn Bridge for sunset views. If time permits, explore DUMBOs art galleries and grab a slice of famous New York pizza.

Explore the cultural neighbourhoods today. Begin in Harlem with a visit to the Apollo Theater and grab brunch at a local soul food spot. Head down to the Metropolitan Museum of Art on the Upper East Side, then wander through the charming streets of the West Village or Chelseas High Line park. End with a Broadway show or live music in the evening for an unforgettable last night in the city.

Day 4 New York City - Poughkeepsie
Collect your car in New York City and drive north to Poughkeepsie, located in the scenic Hudson Valley. Check into your accommodation, then head straight to the Walkway Over the Hudson State Historic Park - the world's longest elevated pedestrian bridge with breathtaking river views. In the evening, explore the charming downtown area with its cozy cafes and craft breweries.

Spend your day exploring the Hudson Valleys natural beauty and history. Visit the Franklin D. Roosevelt Presidential Library and Museum in nearby Hyde Park, followed by a tour of the Vanderbilt Mansion National Historic Site. Then, stop for lunch at the Culinary Institute of America, where you can enjoy a gourmet meal at one of the student-run restaurants. For a more outdoorsy experience, hike the nearby trails or visit a local winery such as Millbrook Vineyards & Winery. Wrap up your day with a farm-to-table dinner at one of the regions acclaimed restaurants.

Day 6 Adirondacks & Lake George
Head further north to the beautiful Adirondacks and Lake George. After checking in, take a relaxing boat cruise on Lake George to soak in the pristine waters and mountain scenery. In the afternoon, stroll along the lakefront village, checking out local shops and cafes. Consider dining lakeside with fresh regional cuisine.

Lake George is a hub for outdoor activities. Spend your day hiking up Prospect Mountain for panoramic views or explore the nearby Adirondack High Peaks. For a more leisurely activity, rent a kayak or paddleboard. In the evening, visit a local brewery or attend a live outdoor concert if available during your stay.

Day 8 Lake Placid
Journey deeper into the Adirondacks to Lake Placid, famed for its Olympic history. Once settled, visit the Olympic Center and museum to learn about the Winter Games. Take a walk around Mirror Lake or rent a bike to explore the scenic trails. For dinner, try one of the charming bistros or pubs in the village.

Spend the day hiking one of the nearby trails like the easy High Falls Gorge walk or the more challenging Mount Jo for fantastic views. Alternatively, explore the Wild Center in nearby Tupper Lake a nature museum with immersive exhibits and treetop walks. Enjoy a cozy evening by the fireplace in your lodge or sample local craft beverages.

Day 10 Albany
Drive south to Albany, the capital city of New York State. Visit the New York State Museum to dive into local history and culture, then tour the impressive Empire State Plaza with its modern architecture and art installations. Check out the Albany Institute of History & Art, and finish your day with dinner in the vibrant downtown district.

Dedicate today to Albanys rich cultural heritage. Start at the New York State Museum, where you can explore exhibits about the states natural history, art, and culture. Then visit the Albany Institute of History & Art, one of the oldest museums in the country, showcasing Hudson River School paintings and local artifacts. If youre interested in architecture, consider visiting the nearby Schuyler Mansion, the elegant 18th-century home of Revolutionary War General Philip Schuyler. End your day with a meal at one of Albanys acclaimed farm-to-table restaurants downtown.

Before leaving Albany, take a morning walk along the Hudson River or visit the USS Slater, a restored WWII destroyer ship museum. Start your drive back to NYC with plenty of time to return your rental car. If your schedule allows, have a final NYC meal or stroll before heading to the airport for your flight home.
