A holiday is all about letting your hair down, which for a lot of people, can involve having a few cold ones in one of the many stunning destinations across the globe. But the rising cost of living will have many scratching their heads wondering which of these beautiful places has the best bang for buck when it comes to beer. Well worry no longer, because we have crunched the costs and calculated the conversions rates to give you an easier guide to how much beer will cost in some of our favourite destinations.

9. USA

While the USA might be the most expensive destination on this list, how can you visit the states without tasting some of the delicious local nectar? The USA is a big place, so prices will vary from state to state. In the capital of Washington, you can expect to pay about US$8.00 (AUD$12.53) for a 0.5L draught.

There are many parts of the US known for their craft beers too. Check out San Diego, Portland, Denver and Anchorage for the cities with the most microbreweries, while Santa Rosa in California is currently America’s microbrew capital. 

8. Singapore

A 0.5L draught of the local beer in Singapore will cost you around SGD$10 (AUD$11.45). Not a beer drinker? A signature Singapore Sling at the Raffles Courtyard will set you back around SGD$39.

7. United Kingdom

With more than 46,300 inns, taverns and pubs (according to the British Beer & Pub Association), a visit to an English, Scottish or Welsh pub is a must-do on your UK holiday. If you are in London, 0.5L of local beer will set you back £6.35 or AUD$12.11.

Want to soak up some history? The oldest pub is said to be Ye Olde Fighting Cocks in St Albans, Hertfordshire in England.

6. Ireland

Irish eyes are smiling but Aussie travellers’ eyes might be smarting a bit at the cost of an ale in Ireland. At €6.50 (AUD$10.80) for a 0.5L draught, a night spent bar-hopping in Dublin’s Temple Bar is not all that different in price to Australia!  

Don’t miss a visit to the Guinness Storehouse, where your entry also comes with a complimentary pint of the black stuff. 

5. Canada

Oh Canada! There aren’t many things in Canada that are more glorious than their famous maple syrup, but the friendly price of a 0.5L might just come close! In the land of ice hockey, beautiful scenery and extreme politeness, you can expect to pay CAD$8.00 (AUD$9.12) for some local beer.

4. Italy

While known more for caffé and Chianti than beer, at €5 (AUD$8.30), Italy iss one of the cheapest places in Europe to enjoy a nice ale. 3. Bali

Bali is often referred to as Australia’s home away from home, and with so many bargains to be had, we can totally understand why Aussie’s love the place. If you are looking to enjoy a 0.5L draught of local beer, you can expect to pay a 50,000 Indonesian Rupiah, which is equal to AUD$4.94.

2. Fiji

In this South Pacific paradise, a 0.5L of the local lager will cost Australian holidaymakers just FJD$6.50 (AUD$4.47). Fiji Bitter may be the national beer, but it certainly won’t leave a sour aftertaste for travellers on a budget.

1. Thailand

When it comes to getting more beer for your buck, Thailand really outpours them all and with 0.5L of local beer costing around 80 baht (AUD$3.47) it is easy to see why! If you are heading to Thailand and feel yourself getting thirsty, be sure to try some of Thailand’s famous local flavours, Singha and Chang.
