FCTG’s Reconciliation Action Plan

FCTG has always been about inclusivity - of and for the many wonderful people we have within our organisation. Our makeup is a wide diversity of race, gender, sexual orientation, religion and culture.
It was a natural progression for us to embark on a Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP).
Our Innovate RAP covers 14 areas of action – which help towards delivering on many of Reconciliation Australia’s goals.

What is a RAP?

In 2006, Reconciliation Australia launched their Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) program. RAPs
provide organisations with a framework to advance reconciliation.

RAPs must be developed in consultation with Aboriginal stakeholders and be measurable, action-oriented and publicly accountable.

“The most inspiring RAPs come from companies that have thought about what reconciliation means to them and how their organisation can make a unique and lasting difference.” Quote from Creative Spirits website.

There are four types of RAPs: Reflect, Innovate, Stretch and Elevate. Each type is designed to suit an organisation at different stages of their reconciliation journey. FCTG is currently implementing an Innovate RAP.

“An Innovate RAP focuses on developing and strengthening relationships with Aboriginal and
Torres Strait Islander peoples, engaging staff and stakeholders in reconciliation, and developing
and piloting innovative strategies to empower Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.”

Actions FCTG has taken so far

Our Innovate RAP has 14 key actions with 68 deliverables dedicated to reconciliation, continuing to build on the foundation laid since our first RAP was launched in 2022.

As part of this effort, FCTG supports Indigenous businesses, with last year's collaboration involving 39 businesses and a spend of $2.8 million.

FCTG First Nations Inclusion Leader Lynne Mailata said genuine commitment and collaboration were key to successfully delivering value through our RAP.

“We’ve learned that true reconciliation isn’t about ticking boxes — it’s about challenging ourselves to create real, lasting change. Our RAP is a testament to that journey,” Lynne said.

“As part of our comprehensive approach, the Flight Centre Foundation continues to offer support and resources to communities worldwide, with contributions exceeding $20 million alongside various global initiatives.”

What FCTG has done and what it is building on:

  • Forming a RAP working group and employee-led Yarning Circle
  • Appointing our First Nations Inclusion Leader
  • Hosting cultural awareness training for leadership teams
  • Launching Cultural Awareness Training module for all staff
  • Encouraging Acknowledgement of Country signage in stores
  • Creating a First Nations Engagement Guidebook for suppliers
  • Holding National Reconciliation Week (NRW) events and panels
  • Organising on-Country immersion experiences in partnership with Intrepid
  • Donating $65,000 to FareShare’s “Meals for the Mob” program.

Looking ahead, FCTG is focusing on:

  • Embedding Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander voices in our business
  • Building long-term partnerships, not one-off projects
  • Organising and hosting multiple events during key reconciliation weeks
  • Allocating resources and budgets that reflect our commitment
  • Ongoing education across all levels of the business
  • Educating suppliers and collaborating with like-minded organisations
  • Improving employment opportunities for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

Karen Mundine, Chief Executive Officer of Reconciliation Australia, said that with close to three million people now either working or studying in an organisation with a RAP, the program’s potential for impact is greater than ever.

“Flight Centre Travel Group continues to be part of a strong network of more than 3,000 corporate, government, and not-for-profit organisations that have taken goodwill and transformed it into action,” Karen said.

“An integral part of building these foundations is reflecting on and cataloguing the successes and challenges of previous RAPs. Learnings gained through effort and innovation are invaluable resources that Flight Centre Travel Group will continuously draw upon to create RAP commitments rooted in experience and maturity.”
