When you're visiting a city for the first time, there's nothing better than getting tips from a local beyond the usual guide book suggestions!

Yangon seafood – Rakhine Seafood has several locations in Yangon – the most interesting with lots of live seafood in tanks is on the corner of Parami and Pyay roads – while Sharky’s on Dhamazedi Road is also worth a visit.
Union Bar & Grill – Union Bar & Grill on Strand Road is an easy-to-find venue, offering great ambience and good parking.
Pegu Club – Visit the abandoned Pegu Club next to the Russian Embassy, Yangon’s oldest teak building, where the squatters are using the 150-year-old teak parquet to cook chicken curry. The Shwedagon Pagoda is now Yangon’s main tourist attraction.
Bago and the Golden Rock – This is a great destination for a day trip as Bago and the Golden Rock are unique and travellers can see traditional Myanmar craftsmanship at workshops along the way.
Insider info – The circular train line is a trip that takes three hours to see the good and bad of Yangon.
