South Africa Travel Guide

Holiday Planning Guide, Locations and Travel Information throughout South Africa

Wild South Africa inhabits the southern tip of the African continent. It is a land of wild adventures where the possibilities are endless and many come back from this place claiming it as the holiday of a lifetime.

The experiences, sights, smells and sounds of South Africa will stay with you far beyond your flight home and will stay with you forever. There is so much to see in South Africa that one trip will just get you started. It is a place that you will find yourself revisiting in your minds eye time and again as it takes on a dreamlike quality, so far it is from your everyday existence.

Start your journey with a stopover in the startlingly beautiful Cape Town, in it's surreal location beside the see and below rugged mountains. It also offers a lively cultural scene, surfing beaches, vineyards and a plenty of opportunity for adventure. Highlights include a trek to summit of Table Mountain (or perhaps a cable car ride if that is more your speed), walking the waterfront areas which are full of entertainment and shopping ore perhaps touring Robben Island where Nelson Mandela was interred for so many years.

Many travellers come to South Africa for that most african experience of a wildlife safari. Get up close to the incredible African wildlife as they roam their natural habitats in the incredible Kruger National Park or even a private reserve. Ticking off the big five of rhino, lion, elephant, leopard and buffalo is tantalisingly possible here. The sea life off the rugged coasts is no less impressive. Cape Town is surrounded by marine reserves where the great white shark can be seen as well as some less fearsome representatives of the ocean including whales, dolphins, penguins and seals.

One of the most famous and indulgent train journeys can be enjoyed in South Africa between Cape Town and Pretoria with Rovos Rail. The charming carriages boast wooden panelling dating back to the early 1900's and travellers have plenty of opportunities go do some site seeing along the way.

But it is the experience of South Africa's fascinating cultures and friendly people that will be the thing that tips you over the edge and has you gushing to anyone who'll listen about what will have been the trip of a lifetime, and planning your next trip.
