Get up close to the incredible African wildlife as they roam their natural habitats in the incredible Kruger National Park or even a private reserve. Ticking off the big five of rhino, lion, elephant, leopard and buffalo is tantalisingly possible here. The sea life off the rugged coasts is no less impressive. Cape Town is surrounded by marine reserves where the great white shark can be seen as well as some less fearsome representatives of the ocean including whales, dolphins, penguins and seals.

One of the most famous and indulgent train journeys can be enjoyed in South Africa between Cape Town and Pretoria with Rovos Rail. The charming carriages boast wooden panelling dating back to the early 1900's and travellers have plenty of opportunities go do some site seeing along the way.
