International Women's Day! My thoughts on the importance of celebrating the incredible contributions of women in the workplace — not just today, but every day.

At Flight Centre Travel Group, we’re proud that around 70% of our workforce is female, and over the years, we’ve seen firsthand the power of strong, confident leadership. But true progress isn’t just about balancing numbers — it’s about ensuring that women feel encouraged, supported, and empowered to step forward when they are the best person for the job.

One of the biggest challenges I see is that women often feel they need to be 100% ready before they go for an opportunity. My advice? Back yourself. Speak up. Put yourself in the mix. Skills can be developed, but confidence and belief in yourself are what drive success.

Mentorship and networking are also critical. Learning from those who have walked the path before you, overcoming roadblocks, and making connections, especially in today’s hybrid work environment. And leadership isn’t just about the workplace. We need to recognise that work-life balance plays a role in empowerment — and by that I mean men stepping up at home to help create space for women to lead.

And my advice once you’re in a leadership role? Surround yourself with great people, stay open to learning, and know that the hard work you put in today will shape your future success.
