Tropical Islands
Discover paradise on a tropical island cruise
From the islands of the South Pacific to the tropical paradise of the Caribbean, an island cruise promises picture postcard scenery, out-of-this-world snorkelling or scuba diving, and unadulterated relaxation opportunities.
Popular Tropical Island Destinations
The Seychelles and Maldives located off the east coast of Africa epitomise tropical paradise and cruises in this region are generally at the luxury end of the market. The former is symbolised by its striking granite boulders, and the spectacular corals in the sea around the Maldives are a haven for snorkellers. Off the east coast of Australia and New Zealand, the South Pacific islands are widely spread and include Tahiti, Bora Bora, Fiji, the Solomon Islands and hundreds of islands including uninhabited and romantic private ones. Hawaii lies further north and its famous beaches and lifestyle have made it a welcome destination on transpacific cruises. Cruises in the Caribbean vary between different regions; the Western Caribbean is rich in culture and great for first time cruisers in the region, beach and water sport junkies prefer the East Caribbean and those in search of a more secluded paradise head to the Southern Caribbean.
When To Go
The South Pacific islands, Caribbean and Hawaii host cruises all year round. High seasons in the Caribbean and Hawaii are Christmas and New Year and February to April. The hurricane season, June to November is understandably the best time to find a cheap Caribbean cruise, and hurricanes are not guaranteed. November to February sees the most rain in Hawaii, but this still isn't a lot, making Hawaii a popular cruise during the holiday season. The South Pacific islands have most of their rainfall between November and March, the rest of the year is usually dry and idyllically warm. The Maldives and Seychelles have the shortest cruise season, from September to May, when the monsoon season has finished and the islands are at their most beautiful.
