Auckland is located on the north island of New Zealand between two magnificent harbours, the Waitemata and the Manukau. The city's landscape is filled with harbour views, volcanic hills and a skyline of modern high rise buildings. Apart from being a vibrant multicultural metropolis, Auckland is very much a water city with plenty of islands, beaches and water sports on offer. Auckland is also referred to as the 'city of sails' due to the large number of yachts which travel in its waters.
Auckland cruises disembark at Auckland's port, which is within walking distance of the CBD.
Sights to See
When you view Auckland's waterfront you'll soon realise just how big the city's harbours are, from Waitemata Harbour to Viaduct Harbour and Saint Marys Bay. Take part in some of the activities these harbours have on offer or head to the Voyager New Zealand Maritime Museum and get to know more about the water city. The Auckland Museum is also a must-visit for those interested in learning about Maori culture, history and art. For a more laid-back day, enjoy a tasting tour of one of Auckland's numerous vineyards. What's for Lunch
For a leisurely lunch with outstanding views head to Quay St at Mission Bay. This fine dining precinct lines the harbour and includes a range of cuisines to choose from. For a true taste of Auckland try one of the leading seafood restaurants like Harbourside Seafood Bar & Grill and dine outside overlooking the ocean.
If you see only one thing...
If it's a beautiful day when you first reach Auckland, head to the city's Sky Tower where you can take in a 360 degree view of the city. If you're feeling brave you can also walk along or bungy jump off the tower.
The city's clubbing district on Karangahape Road is commonly referred to by locals as "K Road."
