After a 2 year hiatus, Vivid Sydney is back in 2022! Vivid Sydney will run this year from 27 May to 18 June in selected locations across the city, including Barangaroo, Central Station and the Goods Line, Circular Quay, Darling Harbour, Darling Quarter, Walsh Bay, Luna Park and The Rocks.
 
Now in its 12th year, Vivid Sydney blankets the city in creative brilliance and promises a fusion of art, innovation and technology from boundary-pushing artists, thinkers, and musicians.  
 
Here is a tiny snapshot of what you can expect if you’re heading to Vivid Sydney.

Lighting of the Sails

Each year an internationally-renowned artist is commissioned to create an original artwork for projection onto the Sydney Opera House that captures the spirit of the iconic landmark. This year, the artwork is by First Nations artists from the Martumili collective and depicts the Parnngurr community and surrounding landscape and celebrates the Martu's intimate knowledge of the land.

For Sydney With Love 

Celebrating the 80-year love story between artist Ken Done and his enduring muse, Sydney. This vibrant animation projected onto Customs House will show the city through Done’s eyes in all its glorious colour.

Checkmate

An ode to the universal game of power, the artists behind this work have supersized the set, bringing an element of wonder to the visitors of all ages as they interact with the piece. Each gigantic chess piece is looks bright, bold, and brilliant!

Tumbalong Nights

This year, Vivid Sydney presents a curated contemporary music program at Tumbalong Park, featuring some of Australia’s most exciting artists alongside Sydney’s hottest emerging acts. Catch free live shows every Wednesday to Saturday night, right in the heart of the Light Walk, featuring the likes of Mo’Ju, Mildlife, Milan Ring, Maina Doe and more.

Vivid Kids @ Tumbalong Park

Presented as part of Tumbalong Nights and a first for Vivid Sydney, this event is especially for kids! Head to the park at 5pm each Saturday during the festival for the kid’s fun zone and acts the kids will love, including Playschool host Justine Clarke.

Vivid Sydney Supper Club

Round out your Light Walk experience with the ultimate night cap at the Vivid Sydney Supper Club. From 10pm ‘til late on Friday and Saturday nights during the festival, Mary’s Underground is transformed into an intimate cabaret club. Lovable über-diva Trevor Ashley has curated a program of acclaimed headliners including Mahalia Barnes, Tim Freedman, Bob Downe and more.

Ideas

Troye Sivan on Beauty, Art and Fluidity

The ideas program has a huge line-up of thought-provoking debates and discussions that includes innovative thinkers and fascinating topics. One of the program’s most anticipated events is Troye Sivan on Beauty, Art and Fluidity. You’ll hear from the singer-songwriter and actor as he and Lillian Ahenkan (aka Flex Mami) discuss art, inspirations, queer politics and more in what is sure to be a fascinating conversation.
