While Adelaide isn’t famous for its retail scene, there’s a surprising amount on offer in the city, from international fashion to funky local designs. Whether it’s strolling the Rundle Mall in Adelaide’s heart, taking a trip to the Westfield Marion and its 400 shops, browsing for a bargain at Harbour Town, or heading to Burnside Village for high-end fashion, there’s still plenty to satisfy everyone in Adelaide. As a bonus, the city’s burgeoning cafe scene means when you need a break from the shops, there’s always somewhere nearby with a brew waiting to help you kick back and relax.

1. Rundle Mall

Adelaide’s main shopping district, Rundle Mall was opened as Australia’s first pedestrian street mall in 1976 and now contains more than 700 retailers. As the state’s premier retail space, Rundle mall is home to a number of flagship stores including David Jones and Myer.

2. Burnside Village

Dedicated to upmarket shopping, the Burnside Village has more than 100 shops in it including South Australia’s first Zara store, along with other high-end retailers including Carla Zampatti, Lululemon, Dymocks and Calvin Klein.

3. Norwood Parade

One of the highlights of Adelaide’s cafe culture, Norwood Parade features a range of coffee shops, pubs, eateries and restaurants, along with a range of shops. Magill Rd, located nearby, is also known as a popular destination for antique furniture and a range of artworks.

4. Harbour Town

Located near Adelaide’s airport, this is outlet shopping at its finest with a large range of stores covering everything from children’s clothing to designer menswear to women’s fashion, alongside shoes, stationery, luggage, general retail and more – most of which are being sold at a discount and there are always some great bargains to be found for savvy shoppers.

5. Jetty Road

At the end of the tram line from Adelaide to the seaside suburb of Glenelg is the Jetty Rd retail precinct, featuring a range of boutique shops, cafes and eateries. Homewares and funky fashion are a speciality, with the area complemented by the famous Glenelg Beach as well.

6. Tea Tree Plaza

Adelaide’s O-bahn busway terminates at this Westfield mall with more than 250 stores covering everything from fashion to homewares to gifts, curios and groceries. Adding to the appeal, many stores are open until 9pm on weeknights as well.

7. King William Road

Positioned along the city’s only tramline, King William Rd is south of the CBD and noted for its stores selling clothes from local designers and overseas labels, along with accessories, jewellery and other speciality items. A visit to the shops can be rounded out with a coffee or light meal and one of the area’s cafes as well.

8. Adelaide Central Market

One of the largest fresh food markets in Australia, the Adelaide Central Market is one of South Australia’s most-visited places and has everything a food enthusiast could want. Whether it’s artisanal bread, gourmet coffee, farm-fresh vegetables, game meats or top quality beef, pork, poultry or seafood, it will be at the Central Markets – which have been part of the city since 1869.

9. Westfield Marion

With more than 400 shops, it is South Australia’s largest mall and one of the largest in Australia. All the usual retailers one would expect are here, along with a range of specialty shops, food outlets and services.

10. Unley Road

Not far from King William Rd, Unley Rd is home to a range of retailers covering everything from children’s toys to hairdressing, fashion, giftware and even automotive sales. There are a number of boutiques here along with homewares stores, cafes, restaurants, pubs and professional services.
