Travel News: Lombok Volcano Eruption Affects Bali Flights

Flying conditions around Denpasar Airport (Ngurah Rai International Airport) have deteriorated, due to the ash cloud from the eruption of Mount Barujari in Lombok's Mount Rinjani National Park, resulting in the cancellation of some flights between Bali and Australia.

Virgin Australia cancelled all scheduled services between Bali and Australia today, with tomorrow's flights under review. Affected passengers will be advised of their new flight details via SMS or email.

For all other airlines, passengers should check directly with the airline website for updated information.

The continued eruption of Mount Barujari in Lombok's Mount Rinjani National Park continues to affect flights to and from Bali today. The ensuing ash cloud near Denpasar Airport (Ngurah Rai International Airport) means flying in the vicinity of the airport is unfavourable and airlines have decided to cancel services due to safety reasons.

Virgin Australia has cancelled all flights between Bali and Australia today, and all flights departing from Australia to Bali have been cancelled tomorrow due to ongoing uncertainty around flying conditions.

Jetstar has advised it has cancelled flights from Australia to Bali today. Limited recovery flights from Bali to Australia during daylight hours today include two flights from Bali to Melbourne, two flights from Bali to Perth and a flight from Bali to Adelaide.

AirAsia and Garuda Indonesia have resumed normal flight services in and out of Denpasar Airport today, however services operated by Jetstar and Virgin Australia are still experiencing some disruptions. Weather reports also indicate that conditions may deteriorate later today.

Jetstar's recovery flights from Bali to Melbourne and Sydney have been cancelled today with other recovery services from Denpasar to Australia under assessment. Other Jetstar scheduled services may be delayed or re-timed.

Virgin Australia has cancelled all services in and out of Bali today, due to the deteriorating conditions ensuing from the Mount Barujari volcanic eruption and subsequent ash cloud. Virgin Australia has also cancelled all flights departing from Australia to Bali on Saturday and Sunday because of the ongoing uncertainty around flying conditions.

Flying conditions around Denpasar Airport (Ngurah Rai International Airport) remain favourable for daytime operations, however night-time services from Bali are still under review.

Virgin Australia has announced the airline is operating its scheduled daytime services and an additional daytime service from Denpasar to Australia. All night-time flights from Bali to Australia are under review. All Virgin Australia services from Australia to Denpasar are cancelled for the morning with other services under review.

Jetstar has advised that all of its scheduled flights to and from Bali are cancelled today, and instead the airline plans to fly 11 recovery flights from Bali to Australia in daylight hours.

The ash cloud from the eruption of Mount Barujari in Lombok continues to disrupt flights to and from Bali today. Denpasar Airport (Ngurah Rai International Airport) has re-opened today, however Lombok Praya Airport remains closed.

Virgin Australia has cancelled all flights services today and tomorrow, having deemed the current conditions unsafe to fly.

Jetstar is operating some re-scheduled daylight services today and will also include some additional recovery services. More in-depth information can be found on the Jetstar website.

AirAsia services are operating today, but may be altered or reduced. Flight status can be checked on the airline website.

Garuda Indonesia flights are also operating again, however there may be flight delays and changes to services. Passengers are advised to check their flight status on the airline website.

Denpasar Airport (Ngurah Rai International Airport) was closed again last night as the ash cloud from the eruption of Mount Barujari continues to drift close to Bali and disrupt flights. Passengers travelling to and from Bali today will continue to experience delays and cancellations to flights.

Jetstar will operate limited daylight services today from Denpasar to Melbourne and Perth, with changed flight times. Cancelled Jetstar flights include services between Bali and Melbourne, Sydney, Darwin, Townsville and Adelaide, as well as flights from Melbourne, Sydney, Darwin, Townsville, Perth and Adelaide to Bali.

Virgin Australia has cancelled all services in and out of Bali today, due to the ash cloud near Denpasar Airport. This includes a scheduled service from Adelaide to Denpasar, and five services from Bali to Australia. Passengers booked on cancelled flights will be informed directly via SMS and email.

Garuda Indonesia and Air Asia are expected to operate some Bali services today.

Denpasar Airport (Ngurah Rai International Airport) re-opened yesterday afternoon after closure due to the ash cloud from the eruption of  Mount Barujari in Mount Rinjani National Park on Lombok in Indonesia. The airport closure meant the cancellation of flight services in and out of Bali.

Jetstar has advised that it deems the area around Denpasar Airport to still be unsafe, and all flights today remain cancelled.

Virgin Australia has also cancelled all services between Australia and Bali today.

AirAsia has advised that select flights within Indonesia will resume operations today. AirAsia guests will be notified of their updated flight status and options by the carrier. Passengers can also check their flight itinerary through the AirAsia website.

Denpasar  Airport (Ngurah Rai International Airport), Blimbingsari Airport Banyuwangi and Lombok Praya Airport remain closed this afternoon due to the continuing affects of the ash cloud from the eruption of Mount Barujari in Mount Rinjani National Park on Lombok in Indonesia. Volcanic ash in present in the vicinity of Denpasar Airport and related flight paths, resulting in conditions that are unsuitable for flights in and out of Bali.

As Denpasar Airport will remain closed until tomorrow morning at this stage, Virgin Australia has cancelled all flights to and from Bali on Friday, November 6, and will assess its flight schedule for Saturday, November 7 tomorrow morning.

Passengers booked on today's and tomorrow's cancelled flights will be informed via the airports, SMS and/or email, as well as the Virgin Australia website. The airline is advising guests in Bali no to travel to Denpasar Airport without a confirmed, re-booked flight.

Jetstar has cancelled all flights to and from Bali today that were scheduled to depart before 5pm AEDT, and is awaiting advice from the Volcanic Ash Advisory Centre when it is safe to resume flights.

Garuda Indonesia has advised that some GA flights to and from Bali have been cancelled, including services between Denpasar and Perth, Melbourne and Sydney.

Denpasar and Lombok airports will be closed for a second day today due to the continuing affects of the ash cloud from the eruption of Mount Barujari in Mount Rinjani National Park on Lombok in Indonesia.

Denpasar  Airport (Ngurah Rai International Airport) and Lombok Praya Airport will be closed to all air traffic today, which affects flights to and from Bali.

Virgin Australia has cancelled all flights due to depart Australia and Bali before 6pm AEDT today. Guests whose flights have been cancelled will advised of new flight details by the airline via SMS or email.

Jetstar has cancelled all flights to and from Bali today that were scheduled to depart before 5pm AEDT, and is awaiting advice from the Volcanic Ash Advisory Centre when it is safe to resume flights.

Airports in Denpasar and Lombok in Indonesia remain closed today due to the ash cloud from the eruption of Mount Barujari. Affecting flights to and from Bali today, several airlines have advised of flight cancellations due to the airport closures.

Virgin Australia has cancelled nine services today and announced the cancellations of more Bali services for tomorrow, Thursday, November 5, with other flights under review. Tomorrow's cancelled flights are VA49 Melbourne-Denpasar, VA41 Brisbane-Denpasar, VA65 Sydney-Denpasar, VA64 Denpasar-Sydney, VA34 Denpasar-Adelaide, VA44 Denpasar-Brisbane and VA60 Denpasar-Perth.

Jetstar has advised that it will notify its customers when it is safe to resume flying. AirAsia and Garuda Indonesia flight information remains the same.

Update: 04/11/15 at 10am

The ash cloud from the continued eruption of Mount Barujari in Lombok continues to affect flights in and out of Bali with both Denpasar Airport (Ngurah Rai International Airport) and Lombok airport closed today.

All Virgin Australia flights in and out of Denpasar have been cancelled today, affecting eight scheduled services between Melbourne, Perth, Brisbane, Sydney and Adelaide and Bali. For up-to-date information, Virgin Australia passengers are advised to check the airline website.

Jetstar has cancelled JQ services in and out of Denpasar today due to the closure of the airport. Affected flights are between Melbourne to Bali and Perth to Bali, as well as Bali to Melbourne, and two Bali - Perth services. Jetstar has advised that the airline will contact customers when it is safe to resume to flying.

AirAsia has also cancelled some of its Bali services today. Garuda Indonesia has not issued any flight information, and customers are advised to contact the call centre regarding any flights affected by the airport closure today.

Some flights into and out of Bali have been cancelled today due to the ash cloud created by the eruption of Mount Barujari. The volcano, which is situated in Mount Rinkani National park in Lombok, Indonesia, has been erupting since Sunday, October 25 and the ash cloud has now drifted within six nautical miles of Denpasar Airport (Ngurah Rai International Airport), affecting flights to and from Bali.

As a result, Virgin Australia has cancelled some services from Australia to Bali this morning. The flights affected are VA49 Melbourne - Denpasar, VA43 Brisbane - Denpasar, and VA65 Sydney to Denpasar. Passengers travelling on these flights will be informed of the cancellation via the airports, SMS and email.

Other flights today to and from Denpasar may also be cancelled, so check the Virgin Australia website before departing for the airport.

Jetstar has also announced that some of its services between Australia and Denpasar have been cancelled today. Affected flights are JQ43 Melbourne - Bali, JQ106 Perth - Bali, JQ 44 Bali - Melbourne, and flights JQ117 and JQ107 from Bali to Perth.

The airline advises Jetstar customers not to travel to the airport for flights to and from Denpasar, and to monitor their flight status.

There is currently no information from other carriers regarding flights to and from Bali today, so passengers are advised to check their airline website for information about their scheduled flights.
