A recent global survey of Flight Centre customers has put one capital city from Down Under on top of the world.

Perth has been ranked as the number one city in the world to visit by travellers! According to data from over 170,000 Flight Centre customers, Perth received an impressive 96% satisfaction rating! So, while it might be the most isolated capital city in Australia, it is also the most loved.

Perth also happens to be the sunniest capital city, which our global customers tell us is major drawcard – that and Rottnest Island quokkas. They’re so cute. But more about the world’s most melt-your-heart marsupials later. On to business.

Here’s a quick top 10 of the city's unique delights that let you see why travellers rate Perth so highly.

1. The beaches

The city's coastal doorstep makes Perth's nearby beaches super-accessible and one of the best reasons for beach lovers to visit. And, given their location on the fringe of the south Indian Ocean, they’re so pristine. Move over Capri, Rio, Hawaii - Perth's beaches have got it going on.

Check out Cottesloe Beach for some sun-loving fun. The pinnacle of Perth's white sandy beaches, Cottesloe Beach is patrolled and offers sublime swimming, diving, snorkelling and surfing.

Scarborough Beach offers a bit more of a party vibe with bars, restaurants, BBQ grills and an open-air public pool - and ample surf breaks of course!

Not a surfer? Head down to the calm waters of Leighton Beach with ideal swimming for kids, snorkelling and windsurfing.

Swanbourne Beach offers everything you'd expect of Perth's beaches -- plus a clothing-optional area that begins about 300 metres north of the carpark.

2. Aboriginal art galleries

Several art galleries around the city let you become immersed in the spirit of the world's oldest living culture.

Yamaji Art Centre is located in Geraldton and is a 100% Aboriginal owned and operated art gallery, supporting the works of artists living in the Lower Murchison Region of Yamaji Country. The gallery allows visitors insights into the heritage and stories of the Yamaji people and the opportunity to purchase a range of artworks.

Japingka Aboriginal Art in Fremantle presents a cross-section of art from a variety of contemporary Aboriginal artists and its stockrooms hold a large selection of 3,500 First-Nations artworks. The gallery also has a range of artists' works for purchase.
