One quick weekender for two, one last hurrah for a very long time...

Whether you opt for a cosy weekend in front of the fireplace or a tropical getaway with mocktail in hand, a 'babymoon' is the perfect way to celebrate your last moments of precious time together before baby comes.

The most important factor to consider is your timing - how far along will you be when you plan on heading off on your babymoon?  If a flight is involved, be sure to understand the rules around travelling while pregnant and aim to travel during your second trimester to be safe.

So, now to the fun part...which babymoon vibe tickles your fancy?

Tropical getaway

At the risk of being mistaken for a beached whale, a tropical getaway is oftentimes just what the doctor ordered. Sun on your belly, a relaxing sea breeze and not a care in the world will do the world of good for any pregnancy discomfort.

Close to home, Port Douglas and the Whitsundays are a fantastic option while further afield, Bali and Fiji will never disappoint.

Cosy mountain hideaway

Throw another log on the fire and rug up for a cosy weekend for two (technically, three). If you're pregnant during the cooler months, a cozy mountain babymoon is the perfect excuse to unwind.

A leisurely bushwalk, if your condition permits, gourmet dinners and a scenic outlook may be just what the doctor ordered. Think the Blue Mountains in New South Wales, or the Sunshine Coast Hinterland and Maleny in Queensland.

Wine country

This one is only for those who are excellent at practicing restraint because sigh...one glass never seems enough. But if you have the willpower to look past the wine tasting, a visit to wine country is fabulous.

Just like a cosy mountain getaway, wine country is all about the stunning scenery and culinary delights. Margaret River, the Barossa or Yarra Valley are our top picks.

To commemorate the holiday, purchase a special bottle of wine or sparkling (or a case to make up for lost time) to have once the baby arrives and when you're free to top up your glass.

A massage is bliss for walking-weary feet in the city.

City escape

Don a hotel bathrobe, order room service and run a bath for an indulgent couple's getaway.  Look for a 5-star hotel experience in Melbourne or Sydney and take advantage of the glamorous and cosmopolitan lifestyle for retail therapy, world-class dining and even theatre experiences.

Top tips? Look for accommodation with an onsite spa that caters for pregnancy and couples massages for an extra special way to unwind together on your babymoon.
